10th ANNUAL HALL OF FAME CLASSIC KICKS OFF 2004 SEASON
The Inside Foos team will be heading up the
interstate to Las Vegas next week to cover the year's first major event, the
$105,000 Hall of Fame Classic and VIFA International League Championships, being
held once again at the Riviera Hotel and Casino on the Vegas strip. This
season-opening tournament is perhaps the sport's most well-attended annual
event, with more than 800 foosers expected to compete for the $65,000 purse
available to players competing in the Open, Semi-Pro, Rookie, and Specialty
events. Of course, there is also another $40,000 in prize money available to
VIFA league players who have met the requirements necessary to qualify for the
annual International Championships.
At last year's Las Vegas event, tour superstar Terry Moore continued his
remarkable run of Hall of Fame success by winning his sixth Open Doubles title
in the nine year history of this season-opening tour stop. Terry teamed with
tour veteran Rick Macias to outlast the red-hot duo of Mike Archer and Brandon
Moreland in a tough two-set final. British Columbia's Moya Tielens also
continued her Vegas hot streak at the 2003 event, winning the Women's Doubles
title for the third consecutive year with partner Laurette Barton, who then
retired from the pro tour shortly thereafter. The amazing Cindy Head added two
more titles to her list of accomplishments atlast year's tour-opener, winning
the Hall of Fame Classic Women's Singles title for the 5th time in the last 6
years while also capturing the Mixed Doubles title with her two-time world
championship-winning partner Frederic Collignon.
After earning the 2003 World Singles championship last September, at the ripe
old age of 18, Wisconsin superstar Tony Spredeman will be one of the favorites
to win the big hardware at this year's Classic. Spredeman's performance in
Dallas last summer was one of the most overpowering in recent foosball history,
as he lost only 3 games in route to the world title.Tony continued his winning
ways on the recent Fall/Winter regional tour, putting together one awe-inspiring
performance after another in tournaments held in Kentucky, Iowa, Oklahoma, and
Wisconsin.
2003 World Doubles champions Adrian Zamora and Eddy Gartman will enter the
upcoming Las Vegas event as one of the teams to beat, as will 5-time world
titlsts Frederic Collignon and Todd Loffredo who are looking to redeem
themselves after a dissapointing finish to their 2003 season. A list of
other potential Open Doubles challengers would include last year's HoFC
finalists Archer & Moreland, along with Rob Mares & Louis Cartwright,
Dave Gummeson & Tracy McMillin, Tony Spredeman & Rick Macias, Tom Yore
& Bob Diaz, and of course 6-time winner Terry Moore & his new partner
Dana Marr, among others.
FOOS RADIO: If you can't make it to Las Vegas for the tournament, don't
forget to tune into the all-new Table Sports Radio broadcast each night
of the upcoming Hall of Fame Classic event. Brad Anderson and his crew will be
putting together a daily show consisting of foos talk, interviews,
updates, Inside Foos audio highlights, and other special features, including the
2004 Hall of Fame Ceremony. They will be offering it as "On Demand"
programming, meaning you can listen to it any time you wish, beginning the
evening of Thursday, March 4th. Go to http://natsa.org/tsr for all the
information on how to access this exciting and entertaining new development.

INSIDE THE PRO TOUR...
Finally, the major pro tour season has returned...
It seems like an eternity since Tony Spredeman, Adrian Zamora, Eddy Gartman and
company captivated the foosball world with their memorable performances at last
year's big Dallas event...
Entering the 2004 season, nobody's coming in hotter than world singles champ
Spredeman who captured a remarkable 10 open titles during the Fall/winter
regional tour...
Tony continues to use speed, power, brains, and tremendous discipline to put a
nearly unstoppable product on the table in every match he plays...
"Spree" will compete for his first-ever major Open Doubles title at
this year's classic with 2003 Vegas winner Rick Macias...
Tony and Rick played together for the first time at last year's worlds,
finishing 3rd in an impressive performance...
The amazing Terry Moore will look to win his record 7th HoFC Open Doubles title
with yet another new partner, San Jose, California's Dana Marr...
Terry's win last year with Rick Macias was his 4th Hall of Fame doubles title in
the last 5 years, and 6th overall...
Moore was victorious with Todd Loffredo in 1995, Bob Diaz in '97, '99, '00, and
'02, and Macias in 2003...
The solid Dana Marr has had some success in Vegas as well, finishing fifth last
year with Spredeman after placing second with Ron Sipiora in 2002...
Moya Tielens will look for her fourth straight Women's Doubles title, this year
playing with tour veteran Dusty Bambanek of Ohio...
Trivia Time: Who was the first player inducted into the newly reborn
foosball Hall of Fame back in 1996?
Congratulations to Boston's Billy Pappas, whose Open Singles win at the recent
Superbowl of Foosball in Lexington, Kentucky may have been the biggest of his
young career...
Billy, coming off his best season ever, defeated Todd Loffredo in the final and
enters the 2004 season as one of the players to keep an eye on...
Pappas, one of the game's most gifted players, will play Open Doubles with Terry
"Flash" Rue in Las Vegas, an intriguing pairing that is certain to
provide some very entertaining play...
Easy Call of the Week: Look for Frederic Collignon and Todd Loffredo to
rebound from their dissapointing ninth place result at last year's worlds with a
tremendous performance in Las Vegas...
In my mind "Rico" and Todd must enter the 2004 opener as the
favorites...
There's nothing more motivating than a dissapointing (and some might say
embarassing) defeat, after ruling the world for the previous half decade...
If Adrian Zamora and Eddy Gartman play the way they did last September in
Dallas, they too will have a major impact on the Open Doubles outcome...
Zamora has become an offensive juggernaut, while Gartman is one of the game's
toughest competitors and best all-around goalies...
Todd Loffredo is the defending champion in Open Singles, after double-dipping
the ultra-talented Fernando Rosa in a tough two-set final at last year's
Classic...
Loffredo also won the 2003 Masters Singles title, and nearly won the Nationals
as well, but for the incredible 5th game comeback by Rob Mares last year in
Minneapolis...
Mares trailed Todd 4-1 in the final game of the national singles final before
putting together one of the most unexpected come-from-behind victories of recent
seasons...
Go Figure Dept: After appearing in three singles finals in the first two
2003 events, Loffredo went on to finish a surprising 17th in Open Singles at
last year's World Championships...
Hall of Famer Steve Murray has told us that his $25,000 Texas State
Championships w\ill once again take place at the Holiday Inn in Irving, Texas
over Memorial Day weekend...
You can get more information on this legendary regional event by emailing
dradack@swbell.net...
Trivia Answer: Minnesota's Doug Furry who set a standarsd of excellence
in a career that spanned from 1975-81, when he was nearly unanimously recognized
as the game's best all-around player...
