With the
major professional tour season and the 2004 Hall of Fame
Classic just weeks away, the foosball world turns it's collective attention to
the foosball-crazy states of Kentucky and California for two traditional early
season regional events. On the weekend of January 30th through February 1st,
Mary Moore and her Independent Foosball Promotions will present the annual Superbowl
of Foosball. This $18,000 event, which is being held at the Holiday Inn
North in Lexington, Kentucky, always features excellent competition and provides
tour players the opportunity to prepare their games for the new USTSA season. At
last year's Superbowl event Terry Moore won both Open Doubles (with Todd
Loffredo) and Open Singles, defeating soon-to-be World Singles champ Tony
Spredeman in the final. I like Spredeman and the New England Patriots to win
this year...
One week later, Phil Schlaefer and Table Soccer Limited will offer the 5th
Annual VIFA California State Championships, a star-studded regional stop
whose list of yearly competitors reads like a who's who with names like Zamora,
Park, Sipiora, Cartwright, Perrie, Marr and Rosa all expected to compete in the
Open events. This early season west coast championship, which is held in the Bay
Area city of Fremont, features Open and No-Pro events, along with several
league-related competitions, as Golden State foosers prepare for the $40,000
VIFA International League Championships in Las Vegas in about five weeks.
As always, the big-money League event will be held in conjunction with the
season-opening $65,000 Hall of Fame Classic, March 3rd -7th at the
Riviera Hotel. You can contact Table Soccer Limited at 408-327-9500 or see our
Upcoming Events section below for more information on
this exciting annual state championship,
This year's upcoming Vegas event will be the 10th annual Hall of Fame Classic
and will once again feature the yearly HoF induction ceremony, as we continue to
pay homage to the sport's elite former players and contributors. The Hall of
Fame Classic replaced the "Kickoff Classic" back in 1995 in Houston,
Texas, and the Foosball Hall of Fame was revived in 1996 in Long Beach,
California, where legendary 1970's fooser Doug Furry became the first person to
be so-honored since the original class of 1986. Since then, the Hall of Fame
commitee has honored ten other new members, including 2003 inductees Link
Pendley and Bob Furr, in ceremonies held each year at the pro tour's
season-opener. The balloting for the 2004 inductee has been completed and the
newest Hall of Famer will be introduced on Saturday night March 6th at the Vegas
classic. And no, I'm not telling.
Remember, to order your money-saving Hall of Fame Classic Package Deal
you must pre-register by February 20, 2004. Go to http://www.vifa.com for more
information or to download your official pre-registration forms.
In other major news of note, Minnesota player, promoter, and foosball
entrepreneur Brad Anderson will introduce his all-new Table Sports Radio
at this year's Vegas opener. For the first time ever, foosball fans who don't
attend will be able to listen in on all the ongoing excitement of a major tour
event. This daily radio show will originate from the Hall of Fame Classic
ballroom and will be offered as "On Demand" programming each evening,
so you'll be able to listen whenever you like. Each TSR "broadcast"
will feature interviews, updates, Inside Foos audio highlights, and other
special features, including the 2004 Hall of Fame ceremony. You will be able to
tune in beginning the night of Thursday, March 4th, with daily programming
continuing right through to the end of the tournament on Sunday evening. This is
going to be tremendous for the foosball fan, and a lot of fun for those of us
involved! For more information on this very exciting and entertaining new
development, go to http://natsa.org/tsr.
