Hi all,

When did they stop making Tornado Storm 2?
Does anyone have schematics if parts on the inside need to be changed such as the goal box deflector and rattle board?

General Chat / Re: playing surface delaminating

I also have a Cyclone II that had a delamination issue.  Since I'm not a carpenter, I went for a less invasive solution.
I was able to reach into the goal and lift the surface up just enough to insert a surgical tube.  I got a bin of the clear gorilla glue.  It has lower viscosity and does not foam up like the regular version.
I got a syringe set with 13" surgical tubing online.  I started with water because the glue instructions recommended it. I lifted the surface enough to get in there and inject a little water.  I used a hair dryer to heat the surface and massaged it. I then took the syringe and used it to inject the glue.  I did 4 batches to cover the area where it let go.  Next was more heating and massaging the surface to get the glue to spread out as much as possible. Then  I put down heavy books and a heavy bin.  I let it sit for 2 nights.
It now appears to be fixed but time will tell.

Rules Questions / Re: Wall count question

If a stopped ball is passed from 5 rod to 3 rod - it is still illegal even if deflect off opposing 5 rod.  There is no  active possession.  It is not a stretch to apply same logic that deflects off man and hits wall.

The rules also deal with this situation -- it's called an "indirect-pass" (not sure why the rules use the hyphen here). Stretch or not, what I'm really looking for here is a definitive *ruling*. Are there any active referees reading this? How do you rule in this case? Do you start the wall count at 1 or 0? On what basis do you make this determination?

If this forum is not the proper place to get a definitive interpretation of the rules, where does one go for that?

I would think not as that would also include every time a wall pass is trapped.....

The rules specifically address this situation: "A ball that is trapped on the 5-rod directly following a transition doesn't increase the wall contact count." But I wasn't asking about a trapped ball.

Rules Questions / Wall count question

Scenario: I block a 5-3 pass with my 5-rod by deflecting the ball, which stays under my rod but bounces off the wall before I gain control over it.

According to my reading of the ITSF rules, this pre-control contact with the wall is counted as one of my two contacts, since "active possession" began when the ball went under my rod the first time momentarily before I deflected it, which would mean that I only have one more legal wall contact left. Is that the correct interpretation?

Would this change if my block caused the ball to bounce out of reach of my 5-rod towards my opponents 5-rod but spin back into reach and off the wall before I could control it?

General Chat / Re: Converting a coin-operated Tornado foosball table to free play
« Last post by JimWaterman on October 09, 2023, 05:03:39 PM »
I just purchased a Tornado Foosball table (it's a coin-operated model with a brown marble color) and I'd like to set it to free play. It has a "ESD" coin slot with four coin opening, two of which have black spacers/blanks. What size spacers/blanks fit here and can I just insert those to avoid inserting quarters going forward - or is there an easier method to do so?

ESD "blank inserts" would work, but finding "OLD WHITE" ones for the older brown marble tables are a challenge.  If you have a newer coin mech with "NEW BLACK" ones, you can get a few more of these =>  https://shop.foosball.com/comeblin.html and swap 25cent inserts for blank inserts and you are good!

If you can't find "inserts" to do this.. you can sort of "break the mechanism" so that no quarters are needed and still use the push chute to vend a rack of balls at time.

Third option which was stated, remove the ready ramp and train the players to "reach in and down" onto the feeder ramp where you can reach foosball number 10, 11 and 12 (as first 9 balls maybe 10 won't be reachable).    A foos carpenter made this purchasable adapter for making it easer on newbies to find the balls if you try this "remove the ready ramp" option.  ==>> https://shop.foosball.com/frad.html

If you want to reach further into the table, some people will urge you to just take out the "ready ramp" and obstruct the ball track. In my opinion, a tornado table's full potential is unlocked when the balls start to fall.
