Promoting Ideas
« on: April 16, 2007, 04:58:53 PM »
I was wondering how other promoters have grow there foosers player base.  I have only been promoting for a year and what has started work for us is have a Hi-Lo event once a month (first Saturday of the month).  This seems to work on getting new players to show.  Telling new players that they are going to play with the best players and have a good shot at winning some money seems to work.  What other ideas work well on getting new players to come out and stay?

Some key things to do that work in a lot of areas...
- HABIT... get a habitual foos gig going....  the "same night of the week" at the "same location" allows your regular fooser to eventually get the habit formed so they know where to get their foos fix
- EXPAND ... you have to keep getting "new foosers" indoctrinated into the habit.   (or Habits if you have a few locations with recurring foos events).   Turning each foosball table you find into a "billboard" or "advertisement" for the weekly foos gig helps ya to find the casual foos player that crossed paths with you.  MEANING... put a "mini flyer" on the table that announces the foos gig.    "Also... if you send me a list of your "city", and "neighboring list of cities".... i can poll our database and perhaps try to get a few of our customers to plug into your events.
- FORMAT FLEXIBILITY .... this is tough... often times new foosers won't easily form the habit if they get "SLAMMED" by the local pro's at their first endeavour out to the all too common DYP format of events.   Keep up the good work in trying Hi-Lo events,  add handicapps perhaps.... or consider letting the "foos tournament" start at 8pm... but have free Foos/Lessons & Practice Time at advertised 6pm.... and Bar Food/Drink specials.... that's a much more conducive environment to getting new players "used to" the hard core foos scene.      For a while.. YOU may be the only fooser playing/practing from 6pm-8pm.... but stick with it... get a few of your top players to come in early for the hard core practice (and coaching new players) too...

What other ideas do folks use to "RECRUIT" new foosers into their local scene?

What about advertisment?  Has any one put tournament info in a paper, TV or radio and if so did it work?  Web sites seem to help and I also get the new foosers name, Email, and phone number so I can let them know of events.  I am from Tucson Az and the closest citys are Sierra Vist, Phoenix, Yuma.

I'll be in Phoenix in a couple of weeks   (from Ohio obviously)   I'm not sure where I'm staying,  but I'd love to play while I'm out there.... where should I go?
