- USTSA TO ANNOUNCE FORMAT CHANGES FOR TORNADO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS SEPTEMBER
The USTSA will be announcing next week that the format advertised on the Tornado World Championship flyer has been changed. The "collapsing", 3000/4000 Limited format that had been advertised previously for the Open events (and was used in Vegas) will be replaced by a "super-seeded" qualifier bracket that will be open to all players. The $100,000 Worlds event in Las Vegas this September 20-24 will also offer traditional Amateur and Semi Pro Doubles/Singles events, along with a Pro Only Doubles event. Amateurs will be able to play in Amateur, Semi Pro and Open events, while Semi Pros will play in the Semi and Open events. All other information, scheduling, and breakdowns will be released soon.
The new Open event format will work as follows: The top 32 seeds in both Open Doubles and Singles will be placed four rounds out in the winner's bracket. All non-seeded teams/players will play in a 2/3, double elimination, seeded bracket, with the teams that survive three rounds in the winner's bracket "qualifying" to compete against the seeded entries who will enter the bracket in that fourth round. The winner's bracket will become 3/5 at that point. This "super-seeded" style bracket allows everyone the chance to compete while also maintaining a "major league" feel to the event. The first round of the Open events will begin at 10:00am, with the seeded teams/players joining the bracket at 2:00pm.
There will be complete information and a brand new flyer up at Vifa.com in the next couple of weeks and in the upcoming Table Talk magazine. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us at info@insidefoos.com.
