Title: Grand Forks tourney
Post by: minnesotaboy on December 26, 2010, 09:19:29 PM
i'd like to have another tournament at Rhombus Guys in the G-F.  February would be the target month, and i'd like to do it on a Saturday afternoon.  It would be BYP and there would be a trophy presentation(take home trophy) for first place, and at least the top four teams would get a payout.  If anyone is interested, please let me know.  Also, if you have friends that would be interested, let me know that as well, so i can start making plans.

I am definitely interested. I would estimate two teams (including myself) from Microsoft would be willing to go up there to play.

Let me know the dates once you get it planned and I'll post again if I find more teams. I would bet around 3 teams from the Turf would also show up.

k i'll keep you updated.  one more question: would people prefer dyp or byp?

Since we've been doing the DYP tournaments at the Turf for awhile, I personally would enjoy doing a BYP for a change.

Also, do you think you'll be able to get 2 tables for this tournament? The last tournament at the Turf was done within 3 hours for a 10 team, double-elim tournament using 2 tables. If at all possible, I would really say get a second table.

A-Ron, you can use my table again if you want.  I just ask that you work it out with Dan and send a group to pick it up and return it, cause you know Dan and Todd are Bronco fans and well, can't really trust those kind.  I hope to make it up there for it, I still gotta get some sort of job.  And thanks for putting on another one.

Have you set a date and/or time yet for this tourney?

Think any weekend in February besides the 19th, which is the turf's tourney, would be better than March (I know you didn't mention March, but plans can tend to get delayed).   Here's a list of March happenings:
5th - Minnesota Semi pro tourney near St Cloud.  -Joel, are you and David planning on going again this year, anyone else interested in it?
12th - another Turf tourney
18th, 19th - Go for the Gold tourney in the Cities - it's a lot of fun, plus many pros including Dave Gummeson (has a few world championships) play, you could tell all those hot North Dakota chicks about it.  And it really would be good to see some of you down there for that.

A-Ron, it'd be great if you can make it to the tourney Saturday, then you could get input from the turf guys and some verbal commitments.  Besides beating them down with your push shot that is.

ok, i missed the tourney in fargo today, but i came up with a date anyway.  feb 26th.  it'll start in the afternoon. we'll get two tables since einer will let us use his.  i have to ask around a bit more to see if we'll do byp or dyp.  but i'm leaning towards byp.  it's just more difficult to get people to sign up for byp if they aren't great or very competitive. we'll have a nice trophy presentation and plenty of prizes.  we'll start at 1pm.  if you have any questions, feel free to ask.  lemme know if you are reading this and intend to play.  GF foosball is comin up.

February 26th works for me. I'll spread the word around and let you know who all can make it. Also, I'm totally cool with doing a DYP if you think it will help get more people to show up. Just let me know once you pick a format.

Einer - I haven't decided yet on which of the two Minnesota tourneys I will attend in March. I'd like to do both, but also don't want to be gone every weekend in March.

Thought I'd get a Turf post on here.  I let our usual cast of characters know about the GF tourney.  They all sound excited about it since we always have a great time up there.  We're not exactly sure what our numbers will be yet, but as it draws closer our plans will hopefully be more concrete.  I'd like to see us bring at least 2 teams up.

There will be 4 of us from work driving up for the tournament. Have you settled on a format yet? Also, what is the entry fee?

byp.  $10/person.  payouts will be determined when the number of teams is set.  at least five teams will win money.  i'd like to get started right at one, so i'm hoping people can show up around noon.

We're looking at two teams fighting out of the Turf.  We're working on a third.  Not sure yet if it will pan out.

The free one-in-you-win singles is set to go after the byp, the mystery prize has been procured!  Will the winner take the normal foosball beer koozie or the mystery box as Kane did last time?  Oh the mystery box.  What's inside?  Might be something big, might be shiny.  Could it be better than Kane's prize???  One won't know unless they chose the box.

Rhombus Guys coming to Fargo: http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/308404/publisher_ID/1/ (http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/308404/publisher_ID/1/). ;D

I can't wait for you guys to open up in Fargo. Also, it looks like I'll be bringing up 7 or 8 people for the tourney on Saturday. I'll let you know if it's for sure going to be an odd number, so you can find someone to play with them.

This was from TJ, he had posted on another thread.  He's looking for a goalie.  Joel if you have an odd number you wanna hook him up, if not can you A-Ron.

"Miinesota Boy, einer, whoever it may concern.  I am thinking i may come to gf for this tourney on saturday last minute.....  how is the outlook sound, will have quite a few teams??? I do not have a partner so I would need to pick someone up... Also will there be more than one tourney??"    - TJ
