Thanks for sharing Carlos. That was pretty big of them to do that. We both know what I mean.
Mary is very deserving of this award because of her willingness to go out on a limb and deal with some of the most fickle group of people on this earth.
I can remember talking to Mary about the what was going on in Europe of which she responded all she cared about was player base here and making sure they were happy. She seemed a little hesitant about upsetting the contentment her players enjoyed here because no doubt, she has one hell of a loyal following to her credit. It was then I began hoping that Ryan, her son, would qualify to be the US rep. for the juniors in Italy so she could experience what we had overseas. The second or third day there, I saw her sitting in the stands by herself. I kept my distance for a little while as I watched her as she stared out and took in what she was looking at. I got a little pissed because I didn't have my camera with me because it would have made one hell of a picture because the glimmer I saw in her eyes was priceless. Of course I'm just speculating here, but I think at that moment, Mary was realizing the full scope of this silly game we call foosball. After a couple of minutes, I walked up and said "Hey, Mary" which took her out of her semi tranced state. She looked up and said "Hi Ice" in her usual jovial way. I asked her, "So, whatya think?". She said that it was nice and there were some things she would do different, but on a whole, she liked what she saw.
Since that time, Mary has adopted some of the going ons of what is happening overseas although it has upset some of her following. I think Mary has realized what could happen in the future of the sport vs. the same ole tired path we were headed in. Her willingness and openness to try new ideas is what makes her special. So again I commend her for going out on a limb to do what she is doing because she really does care about her players.
YOU GO GIRL.
