to anywone who might have an answer for me.....
I am a slighty more than just "casual" foosball player...im still developing my skills but I play with a guy who likes to gloat and boast every goal he makes,(he dances and is just a bad winner to be honest) while im trying to finese a pass from the 5 rod to the 3 rod, and pick apart his defense with strategy....he is Hacking away from the 5 rod,and 3 rod, when ever the ball is near him, and the ball goes in, but its 60% luck most of the time since he is hacking from the 5 rod, i dont have time to go down and even get a hand on my goalie rod,....is there any tips you guys can help me with to shut this guy up??  maybe some tips on playing defense during a singles match? goalie tips? I need help.....Thanx

Well, that last sentence is part of your problem.  You know he hacks, so keep a hand on the goalie rod whenever he has the ball on his 5-rod; use one on the goalie and one on the 5-bar.  Learn to move quickly between rods as the ball moves around the table.  Keep a man on the 2-rod centered so that you know what holes you have to cover with the 5-rod and goalie when he shoots from his 5-rod.  If he always shoots at one side of the goal (say, the side near him) keep the 2-rod shaded slightly over toward that side instead of completely centered.

And if you're trying one style and keep getting drilled, switch things up somehow--change positioning, change speeds, change where you're setting the rods you're not on, try the 2-rod instead of the goalie rod, shuffle the 5-rod quickly on defense if you were moving it smoothly in front of the ball (or vice versa), whatever.  Adjust somehow.

I wonder if he is referring to

1. The guy who swings at anything and everything that passes through the lines of the goal with reckless abandon? You know after the third swing he catches just enough ball to bounce off two walls and the back of your goalie to score, then marks his point with a "Man, I've been practicing that all week". This person is "hacking" at the ball and is lovingly called a Hack.

Not to be confused with

2. " a hack" which is a five rod shot at the goal you are defending, and is usually cleverly disguised as a "would be" pass.

Keep you left hand on the goalie rod any time he has the ball.  This should help keep the hack out.  If this hacker does not work on improving his game you will kick his ass very soon.

That was exactly where I was going with that.

Hit the ball hard.  And when you make a point, take your time or take a break, to that he can think about the shot you made.  This will wear on the braggers patience.  When he tries to speed the game up, use your full time, and slow the game down.

I used to play the BIGGEST hack I ever had laid eyes on..You know I used to get sooooo pissed offmmm-mmm(still pisses me off lol) anyway I just kept letting him play his game and I kept playing mine and evetually I stared to stop all that crap. It actually made me a better singles player and it also got to him and he doesn't play that way as much. I always try to find some positive somewhere!!!!  I didn't let his style effect mine otherwise I got out of my game..Keep doing what you are trying to do and you will be blessed!!!!!!!!!

I hacked my way into the brackets of semi singles of the 2003 HOFC.  Hell, one entire match I never passed the ball, not even once.  I wanted to pass the ball but when watching the defense I would see openings that were just to good to pass up.  The player I beat in that game was mad and screamed "You never passed the ball, not once."  I said, "no need to if you give me an open shot."  As he removed his wraps, I practiced a few nearwall passes "wall & off the wall" and he watched me execute a passing series just fine.  Plenty of players were mad at me becuase I beat them with hacks.  I must say the hacks shots need to be respected.  For example, singles--why wait for the defense to set up?  If the defense is not ready then they are not ready.  As long as the they are not breaking any rules of the game.  You know even the masters will shot a five man shot.  I have been hacked by the finest players.
