Scored a Grey Marable
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:44:14 PM »
I was about to buy a brown marble that had cracked men and needed a couple of rods for $600.

Fortunately, Gitablock and bbtuna talked me out of it, and the next day a newer model grey marble appeared on Craigslist.

I paid $600 for it, the same as the brown, and it's near mint condition with absolutely no sign of wear. Counter said 792.

Got it set up and leveled tonight and played with family and friends. The game play is awesome!

Many thanks to bbtuna for providing sage advice and holding my hand during the purchasing process! I appreciate the generous use of your time.

Are there many foosball tables listed on Craigslist?
I have been considering one, but haven't been able to bring myself to do it.
If I do look on Craigslist, do you have an suggestions to make sure it's a legit buy and so that I don't get a horrible deal?
I'm very much a newbie to the foosball world.

bbtuna, wrote a great article on purchasing a used table:

Here a link to a search engine for Craiglist. Enter your zip code and the select the number of miles you are willing to travel from the pull down menu. In the search field enter "foosball and coin op".

Hope this helps!

Wow! You did good bro! Does it have Merkel rods? Look at the ends of the rods and see if they have a nice clean bevel around them.

I thought they were Merkels but wasn't sure how to check.

Yes, nice clean beveled edge.

Woohoo!

There is only 1 sure-fire way to know if they are Merkel's and that is to take the handle off and look to see where the mark is.  This is a quote from Merkel:

"If the mark is 3/4 of an inch away from the hole they are mine.  If they are 1/2 of an inch from the pin hole they are not."

I ordered some tools. When I get them, I'll pop off a handle to make sure.

My gray has the small "c" on the rod. Chinese heat treated. Not as good as Merkel but better than stock.

Where do you see the "c"?

I was curious about when my table was manfactured so I contacted Tornado and gave them the serial number.

They said that they can't track the date by the serial number.

I found this more than a little surprising.

the c is on the rod - you have to remove the handle and it is there
