Back Pins to slow
« on: August 30, 2008, 07:09:34 PM »
Back Pins are to slow  ;)because there to far back from the goal like 2in. roll overs are more effective :D :-X :- because there closer to the goal ::) :-X :-X

okay, that is pretty funny Mr. Steve, I assume you are from Iowa

this sounds remarkably like a conversation I had yesterday with Mark Murray

if you know the truth, I believe you are trying to be funny but do not continue to feed the igorance and myths about backpins

backpins need support - it probably won't ever become a shot the masses do because it takes too much work, but it would be nice in my life-time if it was generally accepted and respected for a legitamate shot

i think it is the best shot on the table, but I can live with not getting near universal aggreement to this, but I would like universal aggreement that it is a shot to be respected and even feared

On friday I played with 4 local guys that i think are all semipro's on tour, one is going to worlds next month. he shoots a back pin. it is scary when he shoots it. two of the guys shot pulls and one shot a snake. the hardest time i had stopping anything was the backpin for sure; it is a good shot when done right.

Mr Steve,

Where oh where do I start?????? The next time you go to Dispatch ask how slow the backpin that they've seen is..(Tim Miller--Me...of course) I am as confident as they come when I tell you that I will shoot my backpin for you Deadbar pull and push you'll change your mind(push obviously much harder to do)....promise....most do!!!!. As a matter of fact I have not seen anyone who can shoot a faster shot than when I shoot my backpin..(not trying to brag...maybe alittle..lol)..As also told to me by many many players abroad :) Maybe some people shoot it slow but I can assure you that I have worked for many years to perfect it and it isn't slow by any means..I will say it has it's time when the slower backpin is needed. When I brush it in or something, but SLOW no WAY!!!!  >:(     You need to come to the Great city of Grand Rapids to see first hand... I really wish I could teach some others to shoot it the way I do cause I'm sure it is much different then others who shoot the same shot :)  Hence the reason I have the nickname Anacondabackpin.....no wimpy garder snakeshot here, just the ANACONDABACKPIN BABY!!!!!! 8)

Tuna i'm from edmonton in canada, are you going to worlds? Garry is the back pin shooter i was speaking of, our completely out of date site is http://www.telusplanet.net/public/ssj/players.htm and you can see some other info about players in edmonton on there.

Mr. Steve,

I figured you were just trying to create a stir and it is good to hear you are a backpin shooter

so I can now add two more to the list, Mr Steve (still don't know your name) and Garry Burgardt

I was being asked about my backpin at a tournament in IA Chris Traynor and I went to yesterday (8/30) and Mark Murray said, "I never thought I would say this, but after watching your backpin, I can see that it is a legitimate tournament shot"  I said I thought it was the best shot on the table and he said after seeing this and thinking about all the possibilities, he thought it was too.

I said one of the bogus things I hear is the distance from the goal compared to front pins or even pulls and I showed him why this was an erroneous conclusion.  I won’t go into right now but it is not a valid assumption.

A couple of thoughts

- far as vertical power goes, of course the backpin can generate plenty of power ("speed") especially if you shot it open-handed like Tim Miller does but even with the wrist only (which I assume the rest of us do) the amount of “speed” is only limited by the shooter’s capability just like any shot

-horizontal speed is also limited by the shooters athleticism but of all the shots, it is the most difficult to create immediate horizontal speed…the take off is much hard than all the other shots because of the muscle groups involved when holding the ball in a pinned position…in my prime, when I was young and my young muscles responded better and my hand speed was at its peak, I overcame this and could go head to head with a goalie speed to speed to the corners

I think if you saw my shot now you would think it was fast enough but I am rarely going to beat people to the corners with pure speed (no fakes just a straight race) but the great thing about the backpin is that this is not necessary

-last, it will never catch on with the masses, way too much work when you can get a reasonably threatening, and cool looking/feeling shot in the rollover in less than a year practicing part time (and you would feel good about it long before then).

Also, you could have a world class roller in 2-3 years (mechanically) if you really worked at it (you would still need to learn defenses and how to shoot in tournaments but I just mean the capability) – I mean look at Rico, he has dominated with a Euro Pin in the US (and around the world) for over 10 years now and you have seen no movement toward people picking the EuroPin up in the US…so, the BC (Backpin Club), we few, we happy few, we band of brothers aren’t going to convince the people to adopt the backpin even though, all things being equal..

THE BACKPIN IS THE BEST SHOT IN TABLE SOCCER

I won a lot of small local tourneys in the day deadbars splits and of course a bank, and it does work on warrior. In Ky. I did win a couple of matches with a BP I just need to use it more, the tornodo seems to smooth for my BP if that makes any sense.
