Ball getting stuck under man (a lot)
« on: June 30, 2009, 08:39:52 PM »
Hi there, I've been reading the forums for a while and recently purchased a new "better" table for the boys at work.

It's been great, except the ball that came with it was too loud, so we've changed to cork. Since we've changed to cork it gets jammed under the player if the ball is slightly behind the crossbar (it's annoying people)

We have players like these: http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/26PCS-BLACK-WHITE-Foosball-Men-Player-Soccer-Table_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ380116975879

Description of bottom section: arrow ended with the tip cut off.

I'm wondering if there's another type of ball I could use that is quieter than nylon, but will skid out like nylon (I'm in New Zealand, so the price of shipping from foosball.com is about the cost of a foosball table and have to choose wisely)

Instead of sacrificing ball quality and playability, why not try to line the inside of the back of the goal with something to help eaden the sound?  Maybe attach some foam to the inside back of the goal with some duct tape,  quick and potentially less expensive noise reduction.

just a thought

Cheers for that suggestion.

Unfortunately it's pretty much any point where it hits the side or goal that makes a much louder sound than the older table did, it seems to be harder/better quality wood compared to the softer chipboard of the old table.

find the thiniest mouse pads you can and cut them to fit the back wall and use a good two sided table to pad the back goal...use one in each of the goals (no need to cut or table here) and you will remove 85% of the sound and you can go to a ball that fits the table

probably the Warrior ball would be a good compromise...it is softer and so more quiet than most but it is a good size, keeps its shape, always rolls true, and will provide a good level of control for beginner players
