Questions about Premier Foosball
« on: February 08, 2010, 12:58:06 PM »
I recently purchased an used Premier Foosball (its gray not sure of the model) from craigslist.  After having a few friends over they pointed out a few things that I didnt notice so I am wondering if someone can help with some of my questions.

-Which ways should the guys be facing?  For e.g. should the players on one team all be facing one way? so each rod has all the players facing the same direction as the goalie??

-The screws/nuts on the guy that hold the player on the rod... does it matter if the end of the screw is in front rather than the back?

-Not sure how to explain this... Does the handle have to be pushed all the way in the rod?  I feel as if some of the players dont move as far as they should almost as if the stoppers are too soon.  For e.g. If I move the goalie to the furthest left position its not same as if I move it to the furthest right position.

Any advice will greatly be appreciated.

all men on a team should face the goal to their right they are attempting to score in

no real difference on the screws in my experience but the head of the screw was always in front on the tables i have known with screws...this means, nut on back of man

don't understand the handle question...can you post a couple pictures...if the handles don't screw on, i assume they should go all the way on until they meet the rod

Thanks for the first couple of answers...it makes sense and its exactly what I thought.  I did figure my last question would be confusing so I am going to try and take pics tonight to explain it better.

I once owned a Premiere blue top ('75 or '76) and those handles did just slide on. So, yes, the handle should slide/push on all the way.

Ok..Here's a couple of pics I took with my iphone.  There are 3 pics and what I am trying to show if I pull the rod so the goalie is to the far left notice where the goalie lines up with the goal line, then notice where if I push the rod all the way in so the goalie is on the far right notice the difference where its not lined up with the goalie lines.  When I force the handles out I notice I can get the goalie closer to the goal line on the right as it is on the left but I do notice now the handle is soft as if its not all the way on the handle.  How this makes sense.

To the left

To the right (with the handle pushed all the way in so you can feel it softer at the end)

To the right (with the handle NOT pushed all the way in)

makes sense...the position of the man in the goal on the left is the same as it should be on the right so if that means the handle is further back, and therefore softer, then i guess that is the way it should be

i wonder if the front 3 man rod is drilled the same as the back 3 man...on Tornado they are not the same rod even though they both have 3 men and having the wrong rod in either positioin would cause issues

on the old TS, which this looks more like, both rods were the same

might want to check that, how are the handles on the other rods? when you push the rod all the way in on them is there a space between the edge of the handle nearst the outside wall of the table and the outside table wall...there should be...doesn't sound like this is true on the goalie rod

do you have the same problem on both goalie rods?

I wonder if that rod belongs on the three row or if the rod is reversed with the handle on the wrong end. How much rod is exposed on the opponent's side when you have it pulled all the way toward you?

Thanks for the response.

I'll have to check tonight but can you tell me how much rod should I expect to see if I pull the rod all the way to me so I have an idea.

Also, do you notice that in the pics you can see white players are not facing the goalie.  Someone in my previous post replied that all players should face the goal they are shooting towards which makes me think this was not set up correctly.  I purchased this used so maybe at one point they took it part and put it back together incorrectly.  What can I do to confirm that eac rod is in the correct place?

Well, my first post. I played a lot back in the day (late 70's) and I have a premier table I had in storage for a long time, and I just pulled it out and reassembled it so I could play with my son. I know this is a Tornado forum, but I really like my Premier, it is clean and fast and I just got some Tornado balls for it and they handle fantastic.

Luckily for me with reassembly, when it was put in storage the handles were left on the rods, so when I put it back together I didn't have to think about which end of the rod the handle goes on, because as this post shows, and after checking my table, you can get it wrong easily.

With an informal look at my table, I can see that the handle end of the rods have at least 6 inches or more additional length to them on the handle side, measuring from the end of the rod to the first hole. When the rod is fully pushed in, there is at least an inch or two of space between the fully pushed on handle and the side of the table (i.e. the handle doesn't come close to hitting the table). I hope that makes sense.

So, I vote for these being backwards, i.e. the handle is on the wrong end of the rod.  If you look at the two man in the above pic, the rubber bumper is not even pushed up against the man, leading me to believe you have the problem not only on the goalie but also (at least) on that two man, as it looks like you can't even push that one all the way over either.

I will say that the 3 rods all look identical on mine, so I don't think it is a problem of having the goalie rod with the three holes being different then the three man rod.

Hope that helps.

Bob

nice Bob, thanks...this isn't a Tornado forum, this is a foosball forum dominated by tournament players and tournaments are held on Tornado...plus they make a super durable table originally built to sell to vending owners who needed something to withstand the abuse a table gets in a bar

we are PC here and believe in diversity, heck, some of my best friends own Premiers :P

I want to thank everyone for their feedback.  You guys were on point with the rods being backwards.  They were all backwards!

Thanks again!!!!!!
