The USA has won the the Men's Division of the World Cup for the past 3 years. In the past years the world cup has grown.
History
The first ITSF World Cup of Table Soccer was held in Germany in 2006. There was only one division of play, with the team comprised of men and women players. The USA took 5th place losing to France in the Quarterfinals.
The next edition of the World Cup took place in 2009. In this year, there were 2 division, men and women.
The USA won the gold medal in the mens division. The USA womens team finished 5th.
Then is 2010, there were 4 divisions: mens, womens, juniors and seniors. The USA did not field a junior team for this event. The USA won the gold medal in both the mens and senior divisions. The USA women finished 9th.
In 2011 there were also 4 divisions, with the USA taking gold in the mens division, and silver in the senior division. The women finished in 5th place. The USA juniors finished in 5th as well.
In 2012 there are essentially 6 divisions. Mens Division 1, Mens Division 2, Womens, Juniors, Seniors, and Wheelchair/Disabled.
The mens division is divided into 2 divisions, and the USA is in Division 1. The USA will field mens, womens, juniors and seniors this year.
Austria won the womens division in 2010, so it is true that Austria won a gold medal in 2010, but the article was not clear about that.
Now if we only had wheelchair accessible tables here in the USA....It would be great to be able to field players for the disabled/wheelchair category as well!!
