Tornado ID and Price Help
« on: March 23, 2013, 10:22:26 AM »
I'm new to the forum and looking to add a quality table to our game room. It sounds as though Tornado coin-op is the appropriate route for long term use and enjoyment. Our plan is to stay under $1,000.  The link below provides a local table wherein the owner indicates he purchased about 10 years ago but, does not know model name. Through searching on this forum, I suspect this model is the Cherry or Mahogany.

Questions:
1.  Can someone confirm the actual model in the link below and what an appropriate purchase price should be assuming very good condition?
2.  With my budget in mind, can someone recommend a particular model and price point?

For reference, I played quite a bit 20 years ago in college and appreciate the quality of coin-op tables.

Thanks in advance for your collective help.

Jeff

That is actually a brown marble coin-op. Good table, but $950 seems very high. In my neck of the woods (NC) brown marbles typically can be found for $500 or less. I've seen many on CL over the past year in the $350-$450 range. Not sure if regional availability makes that big of a difference, but I doubt it. Here are a couple of nearby tables that are $500 or less.

Kevin,

Your feedback is very valuable.  Much appreciated.  I have reached out to the links you provided below a few days back but, have yet to hear from the sellers.

With respect to the Brown Marble, I hope to see the table in person for inspection in the near future.  What in particular would you recommend I focus on during the inspection on this particular model?  Also, is it to be assumed that most Tornado coin-ops have been used in commercial environments?  I ask this question as it appears the Brown Marble in my reference appears to be used in a residential setting.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Jeff

Every moving part (and a few that don't move) on the brown marble are replaceable. Check this site and also you can do a search for Tornado foosball parts and find other dealers on the web that sell replacement parts. Bring a pricelist with you and that will allow you to tally up what you would need to put into the table to bring it up to snuff. Some items are cheap to replace (men, handles, bearings, bumpers) while others are more costly (rods). That said, having to replace a lot of the cheap items can certainly add up. Deal killers, in my opinion, are water damage (look for swelled wood, bowed or split laminate), "blown-out" goals (chipped out laminate and wood around the goals) and warped playfield.

Many coin-ops are bought for home use so not necessarily a bar table. And $950 is WAY too high :-)

Kevin,

One again your input is very much appreciated. The Brown Marble seller is firm and therefore I have asked to be communicated with if he decides to reevaluate his selling price. If I hadn't stumbled upon this site, I could have easily overpaid for a product. I will utilize your information and advice to patiently look for and find the right table.

Thanks again.

Jeff

Yeah, I've seen many overpriced coin-ops (and non coin-ops) on CL. They don't seem to sell so Mr. Brown Marble may come down, but his price is so far above market value that you are likely to find another that is reasonably priced first. Good luck!
