Warrior Tournament Tour
« on: February 11, 2014, 07:17:33 PM »
So apparently Warrior is challenging Tornado and getting into the Tournament business. Discussions I've read on the other foosball forum indicate that Brendan has big ideas for promoting the game, but no details are forthcoming. So, what's up, does anybody know? There are NO Warrior tournaments on the foosball.com schedule, just one Bonzini and a slew of Tornado events. If I'm going to travel and spend money, I have to know now about dates and locations so I can schedule vacation time at my job, and Tornado tournaments don't really interest me all that much.

Fireball has completely disappeared and if Warrior does the same thing, I'll be very disappointed and might just give up on this tournament stuff. It's not worth it. Hopefully, Warrior will get it's act together and start scheduling tournaments on this website.

My question is, what exactly is your beef against tornado? Also if your looking for a tournament warrior table, I've seen them going for around $300 on eBay.

I shoot a back pin and the ball doesn't do what I want it to do on Tornado, I don't like the table.

I'm not looking for a table, I'm interested in Warriors tournament schedule.

Well, here it is March and still no sign of any Warrior tournaments. Curious. Apparently Warrior is going to copy Fireball's disappearing act. Too bad for all of us who bought either table expecting to compete on that table in a tournament setting. At least I have a great table in my home to enjoy. This Fireball is so well built it will probably last me the rest of my life. Sure wish there were some tournaments on this side if the planet to go to.

When I was at the Warrior Runaway Bay tournament a Warrior rep gave me a friendly ribbing about buying a Fireball when it was the ITSF table and getting left out in the cold when the Fireball tour vanished. Now Warrior seems to be doing the same thing to it's buyers. What a shame. :'(

To be fair to Warrior, it isn't like Tornado actually runs the tournaments. TD's already own Tornado's for most of the ones on the schedule (coin op tables) and if not then it is people purchasing Tornados to run the events. Warrior is really the only manufacturer that throws there own tournaments (Rocky Mountain Open, Desert Classic, Runaway Bay all recently).

I would expect Brendan to be running more events this year, and he'll probably announce them in the next month or two. Hopefully another tournament will be run in New Castle Colorado in June, that was a blast last year.

I had fun at Runaway Bay even though it wasn't a big turnout, and I heard that the Colorado tournament was a good one. I don't really know how the whole tournament scene works, I've been away for awhile, but your comment, Will17, has educated me a little. Thanks for that. I'll try not to get to discouraged and be more patient for the tournament schedule.

It's probably irrational, but no matter how hard I try I just don't like Tornado tables. The thing is, I'm the philosophical type and I believe that I don't have to run with the heard just because everyone else does. They like a table I don't like. Fine. Some people take it personal, but it's not. My life belongs to me and I'll play on the table I like and avoid the one I don't.

Fireball left me hanging, but I like my table anyway. My tournament days are over for the most part but I still enjoy the game at a lower level than I used to play on. Happiness is what counts.

Not trying to argue with you or anything. And you can have a disliking to Tornados all you want. However, if all the Major leaguers are using wooden bats, and you REALLY hated it and were more comfortable with an Aluminum bat, you think everyone is going to change or acquaint to your style of game? I think at this point with the lack of other tables/tournaments you are hoping for.., it might be time to try to perfect your skills on a different table or attempt a new approach. (if you are looking for that tournament atmosphere.) But by all means again play however you want. Its playing the game at all that matters! getting together with family and friends smashing the ball around is just great! No matter what table you play on or how you play. Good luck to you!

I appreciate the polite comment, The_Hun.

I don't expect or want anyone else to change or acquaint to my style of game. Most people dislike the way I play, five man shots and quick shots and tricky *** I like to pull. I don't mean anything by it, but a players personality come out in their game, me and you and everyone else. I just play the game and it comes out the way it comes out. I want everyone else to love Torando if they want to, it's nothing personal. I just suck on that table and I'm not sure how much effort I'm willing to put into adjusting my game.

I understand what you're saying and I agree that if I want to attend a lot of tournaments I should adapt to the Tornado table. I've told myself that. I'm sure there are a lot of nice people playing regularly and I would make some new friends. But I really, really hate losing to people who don't play as well as I used to, and Tornado accentuates that situation.

I'm 63, I'm old. I hate to think I'm too old to learn new things and I'm always trying new shots and razzle-dazzle and fun stuff. But I just plain can't shoot a pull shot, for example. It's funny how so many find the shot so easy and natural to shoot and it just evades me. On the other hand, at one time I had an amazing backpin and most people have a hard time trying to shoot the shot. We all know how that goes, you can shoot this but not that. One of the fascinating things about this game. But I digress.

I've come to accept that I have an irrational, emotional aversion to Tornado. Time will tell if I can overcome that and learn to play my game on that table.

Peace.

I hear ya, it took me a while to learn how to do the pull shot, and i am getting better and better at it the more I do it. I actually made one of those training aids for pull shots on this forum and it helped quite a bit. It was simply a thing of moving my hand at the correct motion etc (obviously) Of course with age things will get trickier and learning knew things takes longer, especially when they are not normal type of motions.
I also agree its frustration when people score on you with total luck shots or they're just flinging the guys around and get lucky and connect with the ball and it bounces all over the place until it finds the back of the net. Unfortunately thats part of the game.
As for the table, honestly I started out on a Harvard... and I was ready to drop and quit the game. You can not learn to be a better player on a table like that. Its hopeless... the balls aren't round, they roll with a mind of their own all over the warped and cupped play field, and the men are useless for pinning the ball and for feel. IT was awful... Until I got a tornado. I must say I was also irritated when everyone always just blabbed out and said get a tornado get a tornado.. but I now realize why. It is totally a different game (for me anyway) I can actually control the ball and get it to do what I want.
My idea for you is if you love the game, which is sounds like you do, See if you can dig up a cheap tornado in nice shape on Craigslist or something. So when you have time or the desire, you can plink around on there a bit and hopefully get the feel for the table you are hoping for.
Best Of Luck

Well, it's almost April and Warrior still hasn't scheduled a tournament.

So, Tornado has 95% of all the tournament player support but doesn't want to be the USA representative at the World Cup . Fireball used to be the "Official" ITSF sanctioned USA table but had no stateside tournaments. Now Warrior is the "Official" ITSF sanctioned USA table with not tournaments.

It's laughable.

I see that Brendan has scheduled several Warrior tournaments for the rest of the year. Outstanding, I'm happy to see it. While my best foosball days are behind me I'm not dead yet and I hope to play in Runaway Bay this year. My first World Championships after 40+ years of play!

Last year at Runaway Bay was fun even if I didn't play as well as I hoped to. That's ok, it's still nice to get out of the house and let my hair down.
