New some help with information on 2 torndo tables for sale
« on: March 04, 2015, 08:30:58 PM »
Ok newb here reporting again, but i just want to make sure I'm getting the best deal here.

Anyways i got 2 tables near me for sale: https://stlouis.craigslist.org/tag/4916920471.html

http://springfieldil.craigslist.org/spo/4894265098.html

One is a storm 2 and the other is a coin op. Now i want to go for the coin op but it's a 2 hour drive away from me. So far i offered 400 dollar for the coin op table. So far no bite even though he had it posted for 16 days now. The storm table, the guy just posted it so he is not willing to go below 500 for it. I think hes going to wait for more offers. There was a nice brown one for sale earlier but it got sold in the same day it was posted.

One thing that go me confused is the guy with the coin op says its a 2001 blonde but he says he got it new in 2008. So yeah

What should i do? offer again for the coin op?  I offered 350 for the storm table. I know coin op is the better of the bunch but i wouldn't mind the storm if i got it for a good price.

Thanks again.

I would only consider the coin-op. The Storm 2 is a couple of notches below the coin-op in quality so I'd let that one go.

$600 is about right, because it looks in good condition... sort of worth it.  I haven't tried many, but I don't like the blonde table.  Plays a bit weird compared to brown and 3000silver...

You could butter him up a bit... Tell him you will give him his asking price if the table has the new figures, playfield good, side walls good, posts good, rods all straight, and you can check it out setup properly if you drive 2 hours to look at it.  Once he realizes you know what to look for and the upgrades required to have it reach modern specs you might have some negotiating power.  I would not get attached to that table unless it is for random recreational use and/or it is in perfect shape.  To upgrade to the modern figures and its play characteristics is likely why he is selling it.  The wraps suggests he know about foos and has love for his tables... so it's likely priced appropriately.

That's actually pretty good advice about the almost 300 dollar upgrade kit. The thing is i don't want to drive there for 2 hours and not settle for a deal. My budget is around $400, that's as much as i can go. You think i should just call him up and offer him 400 again because of the upgrade kit? I just plan on using this table for recreational use and i want to keep it for a long time, I'm a strong believer in the "you get what you pay for".

I pretty much stopped looking at other tables once i figured out how good used tornado tables where for the price.

Thanks again for the help, hopefully he gets desperate in selling it and my offer will sound good to him.

$250+tax Replace Playfield
$280+tax Replace Rod Set
Given these two figures alone... Someone will probably buy it for more than $400

I'm just thinking your discourse about the table's condition and any upgraded parts can help you learn some more about the table's valuation and make a decision to drive and buy it.  $600 is a tiny bit high in my opinion if it is stock with older figures but that is what I would list it at if in good working condition, yet I would expect to sell it at $550ish.  You are not the only one in his market so I doubt he'll go for $400.  I'd say offer $525 with old figures, $600 with new figures, assuming it is in excellent shape.

Buying a random used table over a long distance is a huge hassle and risk.  I have bought 2 this way and each time was a gamble.  Usually tables are not setup correctly and hard to assess.  I drove 3hrs and 2hrs for both of mine and even though I checked everything recommended I should have tapped the ball around the sidewalls on my brown marble.... loose laminate snap here and there....  In hindsite, I did ok, but I should have valued my gas and time as well.  Both cases add about $300 onto the purchase price.  Most good tables are passed between friends, the public gets the leftovers....

On an optimistic note, buying the tornado coin gives you basic security even if you miss something... parts, support, and advice are easy to track down as the design has been static for a looooong time.
