Dynamo
« on: May 12, 2015, 10:44:59 PM »
I picked this up a few days ago for $100. After some cleaning and elbow grease I think she has turned out nicely, thoughts? Also don't know much about the model of Dynamo so looking for help there.

Nice table. Are the men counter weighted?
I find those locally for about  100 - 200 and those tables are pretty solid and lasting.
It looks like a home model and may lack a couple of those extras that you find in commercial tables e.g counterweighted men, split bearings, possibly higher quality rods, middle returns, better foot on the men and maybe a heavier table/box.

It could be the silver version

Overall $100 is a good price for a solid table like that.

Thanks for the response, looks like the silver to me. Yes the men are counter weighted. Next project is to remove those guys and run them though the dishwasher. As you can see there is some damage on one if the corners but doesn't effect playing at all.

Looks nice....there are worse ways you can spend $100......nice score!

So can I replace the men with the newer style or do I need to keep the old style men for this table? They are all in excellent condition with no cracks but I'm not sure I like the colors.  However new men are like $40 a set so doing this would cost as much as I bought the table for.

Another question I had is, this table just has the outside Dynamo labeled bearings. Would it be a good idea to purchase the chrome face plates that go on the inside or will it matter ?

Replacing men is a cost. It would add to the value of your table and the playability.
There are sets of the warrior guys you can pickup that fit the dynamo rods, they are the older 5/8 ones not the newer 14mm ones. You can pick those up on ebay for $40 a set plus shipping and the upgrade is noticeable.
New tornado players are about $4.5 + each, sometimes you can get them used cheaper.
If you upgrade the guys you will need pins so whatever deal you go with make sure you figure to pick those up too.

I cant speak to the inner bearing. Some one here will know the best way to deal with that.
Good luck.

It looks to me like those bearings are simply the wrong ones for the table. I recently had a Dynamo (a higher model than yours)  and it used standard Tornado snap-in type.

Check the hole diameter. Swapping out the bearings would also allow you to use Tornado bumpers... far better than the stock bumper/plastic washer type on there now.

The biggest minus for the table I had was the men are not as precisely molded and fit rather loosely which deadens them. But I also paid $100 for it (plus the cost of new bumpers). I just replaced it with a near-pristine Cyclone II that I picked up for $200. Patience and regular CL searches pay off.  ;)
