Push-Kick
« on: March 27, 2008, 03:39:53 AM »
Hi everyone! I really like the push-kick shot, but I've read everything there is on the web.
Can anyone give me more tips on it? Or maybe have a copy of the "Push Kick guide" which is out of print?

Any new info will help!

PS Anyone with a good push kick video could help too!

Thank you!
Jerome

Find Rick Martin from Idaho and book some lessons.
He just placed 1st in semi doubles, pro doubles, no-pro mixed, and no pro dyp, as well as a 4th in semi singles at the HOF classic with a push kick.
They call him the rocket launcher.

I remember my first life in foosball when push kicks were a regular threat, it is good to know there are a few good ones out there...I saw Rick the first time around and his PK was smoke...I have seen Frank Balecha on video and even though that doesn't quite capture the full effect of a shot it gives you a decent idea and Frank looks very consistent and smart but nothing as fast as my mind remembers Rick in the early days

I also got to see Creg Legens my first tournament coming back a few years ago and his was good to, consistent, all holes, smart ... good long but not the snap I am guessing it had when he was younger...still good, but you can tell with some shots on older players (me included) that they don't have that youthful zip...some people are impacted more than others but even the best have a slight edge take away like Todd then and now (still has one of the best fastest pulls in the game but from my memory to what I have seen now it has lost the slightest amount...I think still best in game that I have seen so I don't mean any disrespect at all)

anyway, I hope with Rick and others people will gain a new respect and interest in the PK, I love the variety in the game...now, if we could only get that backpin up and running :P

A guy from my area shoots a mean push-kick. He doesn't shoot it often, he has opted for the roll-over since its less stenuous on body. Like any shot, stance matters a ton. I've messed around with one(not seriously) but I've found I can do it if i stand fairly far back, almost like I do with a pull. Wrist more forward than sideways.

Hi, can anyone give me some ideas on saving a good push kick shooter, who 'sprays' or 'cuts' the ball a lot?

Thanks!

Hey dajm...I wrote this article for Johnny Lotts book but this and several articles by Rico, Gummy, and Todd. were left out of the first edition.....but I saved it ...maybe it will help you ...if you need futher assistance you can email me at ric1415@hotmail.com............good luck the world thinks this shot is extinct...lol..........they wrong....

The Pushkick...........the most difficult  of all shots.....it requires more physical stamina than any other shot to date....Two important parts of this shot are "The Transfer" and "The Start". The Grip should be light but controlled, The weight of your body should be on your left side, Your body should be far enough away from the table as not to inhibit your stroke. Like any "Set Shot" the start should be from a perfect set {receiving the ball to a stop position will achieve this} at no time should the man be apart from the ball. The first motion of the "Transfer" is a lifting action created by the right side of your body...the ball will be transfered at a slight angle to the pocket at the top of your stroke. This stroke is one motion!  The "Start" of your short dinks {middle and short} should take off just like the lifting action of the long stroke. This will make it very difficult for the opposing defender to get a correct read on your choice of shot...There are other options of the Pushkick that are also effective...These are two of the main requirements to execute this shot. There are several  players that have won World Championships with this shot............Rick Martin

I recently picked up the short side dead bar push-kick!!! Let me tell you it works quite well...(off the backpin, it's the perfect setup) I love it ..I can't believe how well it works!!!!!! Funny thing is I use my wrist rather than open handed(which I use all the time) and I can hit it about 9 times out of ten....not bad...it is very deceptive and fast....Still shoot the backpin as a primary shot...can't help it!!!! So many options to choose from!!!     Reid Abel shoots a real good pk and he won nationals ....semi-pro I think
