2009 “Tornado” Points Summary
Please find below a brief explanation of our Points System for the 2009 Tornado Tour. Hopefully this will answer most of your questions.
To begin... The USTSF calculates 4 sets of points: Traditional Doubles and Traditional Singles; Women’s Doubles and Women’s Singles. Our system currently only accommodates one ranking perplayer. At this time your Doubles Rating (Points) determines your ranking (Master, Pro, Semi-
Pro, Amateur). Your rank is what we use to determine which Package you will buy and will define the events you may play in. Your points are used on the tour for seeding purposes only. More than likely your points will have huge swings until the ELO system has settled in. Your rank will not automatically be lowered once your rating falls below a division threshold. Ranks are lowered on a case-bycase basis. To give everyone an opportunity to compete and to attempt to maintain a level playing field in the lower divisions, we may increase the rank and rating for exceptional players that have proven they have matriculated to a higher level.
Ranking for female players is determined by theWomen’s Doubles Rating. Women’s package deals and Women’s event eligibility is based on their ranking. However women will be allowed to buy and enter traditional events based on their traditional points basis.
Here are some examples:
Name John Doe
Rank Semi-Pro
Singles 1867
Doubles 1536
John buys a Semi Pro package and is eligible to play in all Semi Pro events, even though his points are above 1800 (the pro cut off). If John proves over time that his ability is beyond that of a Semi-pro he will eventually be promoted to Pro even through his doubles points are below the threshold, however, male players will not be able to play below their rank.
Name Jane Doe
Rank Pro
Singles 1671
Doubles 1116
Women's Singles 1735
Women's Doubles 2009
Jane would buy a Pro Women’s package and would buy and can play in Amateur, Semi-Pro, and Open Traditional events at the on-site individual event prices. Jane CANNOT play in Non-Pro Women’s or Non-Pro Mixed events.
Good luck and I hope to see you at one of our exciting events in the near future.
Sincerely,
Dave Courington
Also, If you are a foreign player listed as one of ITSF's Top 100 Players for 2008, you will be Rank no lower than Pro in USTSA sanctioned events with the exception of Juniors and Seniors. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.
Final Ranks and Ratings are posted on the VIFA.com website. I have turned in all the corrections recieved to date.
