Foosers don't cheat!

They just get cheated!

Breaking rules ain't cheating if you do it!

Breaking rules is cheating if the other team/fooser, does it.

That is what I got out of a poll just like this one with the same title.

I am as tough a competitor as you will find, and I WANT to win more than most, but I don't even like wins that are controversial. I say play as hard as you can, but be fair. I find a lot more satisfaction in beating someone trying to cheat, when I can win on my own merrit and good play. Players that tried to cheat, tainted the game years ago. A lot of our Champions now are tough, fair players.

You realize of course that the human nature of cheating never changes and someone can say the same thing about the current Era of players 10 or 20 years from now.

As long as there is humans playing a game there will be cheating.

Yeah and worst is when he played with Jamal, you can see in the p4p videos (avalaible at fooserama.de) when the opponent tries to pass along the near wall Jamal on back uses his two rods to push a bit the table, it's a very discreet move but after some balls you can notice the table moved a lot because of this...

Just checked in the videos from the WM 06 are not there anymore, maybe I'll upload some for you to see what I mean ;-)

Really sad that someone with that much tallent tries to cheat. There are situations that happen in the course of a game or match that may not be right, for instance if I took 11 seconds on a meatball pass because I was struggling to get the ball in the proper position, but did not do it intentionally. That's a close call and no one on the table can say for sure it was 11 seconds because there is not a judge with a watch. That said I would not feel like I was cheating by not giving up the ball. But if someone is intentionally taking to much time and or jaring during passes or shots, it is obveous they are TRYING to cheat. If that ever happens during a match, I will immediately call for a judge. I also sometimes try to utilize as much time as possible against certain opponents for the purpose of controling the pace of the game. If in doing this, my opponent is questioning if I am taking to much time, I will also call a judge in this situation, because I do not want my opponent walking away from the table thinking he got cheated. Besides if someone thinks you are cheating them, then they are mad and not playing their best game, and personally I want to beat players when they are playing their best, to me it makes for a more gratifying victory.

For this poll to have any value (to me) I think a distinction should be made between "cheating" and "breaking the rules".

The examples in most of these posts seem to be rules violations that, when detected, are subject to a stipulated penalty. It's like in hockey - two minutes for high sticking or interference - or even offside for that matter whether intentional or not.  These are rules violations just like jarring and time of possession fouls in foosball.  I'm know that Gretzky and Lemieux made it to the penalty box on a number of occasions - and often with intent to break the rules - but I don't think they would be regarded as "cheaters". (IMO anyway).  If so, then pretty much every athlete in every sport is a cheater and the simple answer to this poll is "YES".  That is as long as you've played a sport and been called for travelling, double-dribble, out of bounds, offside, icing the puck, late hit on the quarterback, illegal receiver downfield etc etc

But prohibited steroid use, throwing a game, and illegal equipment (corked bat, foreign substance on a pitched ball) are what I would consider cheating.  Or in a card game where you deal from the bottom or look at your opponents cards.  I would be much more interested in the results of a poll on that!

I'm not even sure what a good example of cheating would be in foosball.

Let's see....corked balls? - no that's okay (for Bonzini players anyway) ;D
