1st thing... What passing series are you currently using? Tic-Tac? Brush? Stick?
Are you passing near-side? Or far-side?

I suggest using a brush series just simply cause it is easier to learn and easier to be successful with when you are just starting out the game. Also, I would ask some of your local players that have a good 5-bar. Ask them for help... it is the easiest way to learn. What city are you in?

unfortunately im not just starting out, 30 years on and off. i try to use the brush pass mostly. i live in johnstown pa. i seem to struggle more against people who dont pass well but try to shoot with the 5 bar and always pass while the ball is moving. players i shouldnt struggle against. maybe at 51 the game is passing me by.

LOL!  I don't think the game's passing you by..  I think you're just falling prey to the standard reaction to catching moving balls.  Remember that most inexperienced but quick passers are not really trying to go through a well-practiced lane, but simply advancing the ball at their next opportunity.  And you're prolly trying to wait and catch them, giving up all kinds of initiative.  I recommend just examining the lane and training yourself, even if the optical illusions seems to say you can catch up to the ball, to jump exactly to that lane, even blindly, from wherever you are, the next time they do the same motion.

If scrubs and weaker players are getting by you, then you should try the 50-50 5bar D... Even if they still pass by you, at least you're just concentrating on the philosophy and executing it as best you can.  And because that D is a a percentage D, you can worry much less about these weaker passers beating you to the pass.

foozkillah your right about that 50-50 d. just got done playing for 3 hours and noticed a big difference in getting the ball to my 3 bar. I'LL try it out saturday night at the tourney and let you know how i do. never too old to learn simple things about this game.

What's this "50-50 5bar D" and where can I learn more about it?
