I think most people here would suggest a split cabinet tornado coin or tp. It's all about having a good standard table and resale value.
My response would be are you italian, who is the table for, what is the goal with buying it?
Are you a proud italian?... I love bank shots and the garlando beveled playfield wall... well you couldn't make me play it. It is too different for my tastes. But then again everyone loves their playing styles...
If the table is for you, and you wish to compete, or just try your hand at US competitive foosball moves, go tornado. Most players play tornado. All touring US tournament players play tornado.
http://schedule.foosball.com/index.htmIf you want a best value table to foster foosball consider the warrior. It is designed and marketed for your circumstances. It is a fully capable table with no limits relative to it's midrange peers. If the kids lose interests your depreciation losses will be minimal. If they break it, parts are cheap. If you want to use it part time, the rods pop out. Has rod guards... but I suspect they are a flimsy gimmick.
You could also consider the sureshot/fireball designs, or the shelti designs, if you wish to go outside the box a bit. Both have good top tier offerings... I'm a big fireball fan myself, but find myself constantly having to adapt a tiny bit to play tornado with everyone else.
One man to three man... doesn't really matter to me... love both, but 3 man is the US way now.
coin doesn't really matter, but can imply commercial durability and expand resale market. ball return can be awkward unless you stuff the goals
Rod accidents will happen on both sides, with kids and adults alike... however, I dislike telescopic purely based on feel but it has advantages
With that thought I found this interesting:
