Style of play
« on: February 04, 2008, 07:05:29 PM »
Through the years that I played(fanatically) I sought to learn every shot I came across, master it, and then incorporate it into my style of play. My style was to throw any shot at you at any time so you didn't know what was happening next. I loved to play like that. I wanted to beat my opponents by never repeating a shot. I know, this isn't the way tournaments are won but it was so fun to see the defense and respond and then go to something that the first shot set up and then throw something out of left field into the mix and then maybe a dink and then bring the house down with some extreme power shot. Mixing finesse and power and sometimes just a daring simple shot that exploits the likelihood of over reaction to the style of play. I want my opponent to walk away from the table shaking his head. Maybe I will never become what you today call a promaster but I could play with those guys from what I've seen on Youtube. Yes they have consistancy of control and that is where I, at this point, might struggle due to the long lay-off. But I'm not that far away. Some day we play.

Om

I am the same way :) I am able to do pretty much any shot out there. I want to be able to have a few options on my plate if one doesn't work on any given time. I have my bread & butter shot of course but ball control is fun to do when you get bored as I do from time to time. I started out doing a push where I'd look like I was setting it up and I'd shoot it real quick. Then I went to pull-kick which I stilluse from time to time and now I use my backpin in which I can't seem to get away from. I also use the pull when I am not executing properly. I use my backpin cause I can do so many shots from it that I am pretty succesful so I stick to it >:( But oh yeah I love having a bunch of shots to play with it's pure fun!!!! 8)

Oh yeah, the back pins are great, pin pull, pin push, reversal pin pull, reversal pin push, rev pin tic tac pull kick and push kick and then what I like to call side kicks, reversal push kick to the far man or pull kick to the near man and if it was a TS table I would throw in banks from either wall to boot. This all being done with a center man pin. Oh, I forgot one of my favorites, reversal pull to near man and then kick across to far man and angle in or the reverse shot. I call it tic tac toe. From the side back pin, the same shots as any set up on the sides except no banks.
