What to do in this situation
« on: February 07, 2008, 05:38:30 PM »
So last night at my local dyp.. I drew this old pro.. our first game we gel pretty well.. but in our next match I locked up and let a few go by me. My fault for sure.. I know this.. Though my partner just starts annihilating me.. yelling and such.. pretty much just breaking my whole will to want to play and or even care about the game anymore.. I had thoughts in my mind of just letting the other guy score so I could leave.. we ended up double dipping and winning the tourney.. my question is, is how do you gel well with someone you aren’t getting along with or not flowing with.

well, you aren't asking how to deal with someone so rude and self-centered?

in general, you gel by working to understand the way the other person works, feels, and thinks

you can do this by asking questions of them, others, and by observing how they deal with things

try and become simpathetic to them, they will notice and appreciate it

however, this sort of relationship building is much different than dealing with an ASS who is so full of themselves they think it is acceptable to dress someone down in front of others

I understand that and try my best.. if its the first time im playing with someone.. ill tell them where i pass.. what shots i do on meat ball.. what i like to shoot regularly and such.. and what passes they prefer.. my opinon it should be a combination of the 2 styles.. not just playin the partners style..

You don't want to tell your partner your entire M.O., what happens next tourney when you have to play against him, he will have a good idea of what you are going to do every time. Instead, ask where he likes passes to be, and then set up so you can either pass to him or shoot on goal without a tell on either action. He will feel more comfortable playing with you if he knows that at least some of your shots and passes will be in his zone of awareness, and yet you can pull out your other preferred shots and passes to use on those occasions when you are playing against him. Also, you will have a good idea of where he will tell his next goalie to pass or shoot and so be ready for them when you are playing against him.

What a jerk to act the way he did. Sometimes people forget it's about having fun. Should you get a chance to play against him I hope you smoke him.

even if you were just playing to win, and not for fun, what about good sportsmanship or just good human being

wildcard,
I agree, I didn't mean that, i have never told everyone everything but it is good to know that i like pass from the 2 rod on the near side better than the far side...that sort of thing...what motivates you in general...you like talk or not

you are right about telling everything

That is why I hate DYP's.  Dyp's have ruined tournament foosball.   You should be able to have a partner you choose and for those that don't have one, let those draw amongst themselves.   We have been doing a single bracket handicapped bring/draw Thrusdays and Clicks in Arlington.  Tonight My wife and I defeated Spirit and Brandon Flagherty for 1st.  It has been great being to play with her again, and it has help both of our games tremendiously.

Well my local dyp has been getting smaller and smaller. We are all pretty close.. except a few bad apples.. but the biggest reason why no one shows up now is due to the table conditions and how it is ran.. most of the people now play out in the la foos club in rosemead ca.. a little bit of a drive for me.. but they have good tables and good players.. trevor parks.. russ king.. brandon f.. and so on..
