New model Storm/Cyclone Tornado Tables
« on: March 15, 2008, 02:03:23 AM »
Has anyone recently purchased one of the newer model Tornado tables such as a Storm, or Cyclone? I purchased a Storm a couple months ago and have been disappointed with the overall quality of the unit. It came with rods with misaligned holes so that when the men were installed, they were not flush across the rod. The legs of the unit do not stand vertical, rather they point inward/outward when fully assembled. The playing surface could not be leveled. If you place a ball on either end, it would always roll into the goal. When trying to level the table, my level stated the table needed to be raised 1/4 inch on both sides. The floor is level, so the playing surface must be bowed. Has anyone come across any tables like these which seem to be of just poor quality? After playing on a Tornado Cyclone II at my job each day, I was highly disappointed with the quality of this Storm model. Is it me, or does this new Storm table seem smaller in width/length than the Cyclone II? Long story short, the manufacturer opted to send me a replacement table. I'm paying the difference to upgrade to the new Cyclone table. Any thoughts or ideas on this model?

It's tuff but the lower priced Tables by all manufactures are not made very well.  It is becoming that coin-op quality is only available in higher end tables.  Lets us know how this works out for you.

I recently bought a new Cyclone and have been very happy with it.  I like the ball returns on both sides compared with the single return on the Cyclone II.  No problems with the playing surface.  However, the ball sometimes comes back out of the goal after a score.  Also, the ball sometimes stays in the pan or gets stuck near the end of the tube so you have to reach in and spin it out.

a new 2008 cyclone....???  I dont like the double return it sucks if your practicing...IMO.....As far as it getting stuck ion the tube what tube are you talking about tube...i dont thing the Cyclone has a tube does it????If you break the pan how do you rep[lace it...My 2nd and 3rd screw fell out and it was impossible to reach them without taking the cabinet apart...the tournament table is split cabinet....makes it easy....

Foosfan,

I'm assuming your table was put together well since you stated you were happy with it. Did you put it together or was it installed from the dealer/company it was purchased from? I'm waiting for my Cyclone to arrive within a week or so and I sure hope that it does not have rod quality issues or any other problems. Is there anything wrong with your Cyclone? Just out of curiosity, I measured the Cyclone II at my job earlier today for width as it seems to be wider than the new Storm. It was wider by an inch give or take, 30" compared to 29" for the Storm. I'm hoping the new Cyclone will be 30" in width as well.

What are you practicing, shooting into your own goal? ;)  I like the double return because I can practice on both sides and the the table will wear more evenly.

Here's a pic of the undercarriage:

I ordered through Steepleton's (http://www.steepleton.com/) and they delivered, assembled, and set it up for me.  All I had to do when I got home was lubricate the rods and I was ready to go.  Other than the goal/ball return issues, the only negative is that a screw came out of the pan.  It's now replaced and taped over with duct tape to make sure it doesn't fall out again.  The Cyclone's rods are almost 25% thicker than the Storm's and that is specifically why I picked it over the Storm.

Also are the corners held together by that black corner joint? or are the end and side panels actually connected together? and is there a metal drop pan above the black box?  if so does that new ball return system affect the sound of a goal?

The corners are held together mainly by the horizontal MDF piece you see in the photo.  The black corner piece probably adds some reinforcement, but it's mostly there to give a showy, rounded corner on the outside.  There is a metal drop pan above the black box.  Goals scored sound much like a Cyclone II, F5, or tournament table.  They're different but you know they're from the same family.

since i have been posting on here, we have had a dozen threads or more on what table to buy...every time everyone says save your money and buy a coin op...this isn't meant as an "I told you so" it is just an example of why we all say coin-op...most of us have either made the same mistake or played enough on the mistakes to know

I always try and tell people to slow down in their purchase because people get emotional and end up buying too soon rather than taking their time and listening to the advice of those who have already learned (most of us the hard way)

it is the way we all are i guess...

recommendation now is, take care of the table, save your money, and when you are ready, sell it and buy a new one...the right one...unless of course if money isn't an object in which case dump the one you have ASAP and buy yourself the right one right away
