Does anyone use this shot?
« on: March 17, 2008, 02:15:10 PM »
I haven't seen anyone do this, it happened by accident one time and now I have practiced and can do it fast 75% of the time. I back pin the ball on the closest man of my 3 bar and let it slip out at about a 1 o'clock angle (using the 3 bar running from 12 to 6) and then my middle man hits the ball on the follow through, it happens quite fast and usually goes to the far post which is open. After a player has seen me do it they can stop it because I cant angle it back to the near post... I found a shot that is somewhat similar but not on a tornado and from the middle man to the far man, and also done quite slowly.

It is essentially a push kick, but instead of pushing it is pinched and fired over to the middle guy...
Is this shot legal? Does anyone use this shot? any other advice?

If its the Texas Tea that you are talking about (I think it is), it will work a few times but probably not in the long run. We have a guy here in town that loves it but once you know how to block it, it's useless. I think he just likes it because the ball hits the goal so damn hard :o

I'm not sure if everyone refers to the Texas T as the same thing, but it isn't this "Texas T" on youtube "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK0Xm0ShC08"

from where the ball is pinched in the back pin you could fire it on net or horizontally depending on how it is released... it needs to go horizontally at the correct speed so it catches the middle mans follow through of the same motion. It looks quite a bit like the one on the first video link, only done so that the shot comes from the middle guy. I think either way the shot is stoppable once someone catches on, but I think its probably good for one or two goals a game as a suprise element.

I put this in the trick shot category.  Only to be used in funsy situations (bar games)

If my partner did this in a tournament, I'd be pissed unless:
a) We're beating the hell out of someone
b) We're getting the hell beat out of us
c) It worked

Ya i agree that its not good for much. I have used it a few times and had it work but I would guess that if I used it in a tournament and it didn't go in it would be pretty embarassing...

Will, don't get me wrong and think that I'm saying you shouldn't use the shot, just not in a tournament setting.  Play first for fun, you can get serious later. (I'm assuming you're a fairly new player.)  Be inventive.   It's a lot of fun having the ball score on something out of the ordinary.  If you enjoy experimenting with new or unusual shots, go for it.  Have fun.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that foosball is for fun until you start playing in tournaments.
Then it's work.  But I still have the most fun at tournaments.

I was kinda hoping to use it in a tournament as a shot maybe once or twice per tournament... I'll test it out in some games against pro guys playing just for fun. If I ever get video evidence of it going in against some good players i'll post it. For now i'll stick with the pull shot as my main weapon of choice.
