IFP and Warrior Table Soccer will be adding an IFP World Classic Tournament to the tour in 2009. Please vote for the location of your choice.

I copied this poll from the foosball board just incase you could not vote there.

You mean Warrior Homey Worlds, right? Since it's all home models.

Vegas is the Best Place to have a Major Tournament.
* The best rates on Flights
* Everything is open 24hours  so you're not stuck with wafflehouse or What-A-Burger after the tournament ends late at night.
* there is always something to do so you are not stuck roaming the cheesy hotel while waiting for your next match or after you get knocked out of the tourney.
* Who the heck wants to go to Missouri  anyway?  (and Kentucky is even worse !)

For me personally, when I'm at a tourney all I do is play foosball from the time I wake up til about 3-4am.  I hardly have time to sit and eat many times, when getting called for matches.  I love vegas, for other reasons.   I'd prefer to keep my vegas trips separate from my foosball trips as I wouldn't have time to gamble on a foos trip.   I'm just glad they don't have a tornado table on Royal Caribbean cruise ships or I'd waste most of my cruise playing a bunch of spinners and stuff.   I gotta kick this foos habit!   ;D

I hear what John is saying, but like all rookies and relative newcomers to tour events, they learn and improve each time they go.  But none of them and others like them can stay in rookies (especially John!).  You know it doesn't  continue to work that way, where one can afford to join all events & at least join qualifiers for Open events.  Unless a newbie quits foosball cold turkey or is a complete hopeless forever rookie, they will naturally progress into a solid semipro, and with any luck, a pro or even better.

Tour newcomers have to realize that semipros & higher compose quite a bit of tour and super regional events, with as much, if not greater, investment in time, vacations and trip expenses as all the rookies & first-timers combined.  The commitment to a tour & regional events over years and decades dwarfs what any rookie or beginner spends in their first or second year of their typical 1 to 2year tour life as a newbie.  This is the same in all touring or major event leagues, like the semipro and pro pool/billiards tours, the varying bowling congresses, and darts and draughts associations.

Semi Pros and Open players can join fewer events, duhhhhhh... and thus have a lot more time, therefore the natural desire to have the event in places with interests, sights and activities for themselves, family and social acquaintances.   Everyone realizes that the typical excitable rookie or beginner is happy to immerse themselves in foosball 20 hrs a day for days on end.  Which is why they suffer more, and are actually treated like dirt by some event organizers.  Who cares, right?  They turn into respectable semipros and pros soon enough, anyway.  So first-timer beginners or rookies are happy to play any Worlds or Major, perhaps even in an old huge used septic tank, if necessary.

So they have to understand that rookie & beginner opinions are seen through their very unique filter, vs the thousands of dollars and hours and peace of mind ALREADY invested by semipros, pros, Open, and ongoing tour players, often over years & decades.   So newbies have to understand, whether its correct or not, why their input is generally and logically ignored.

We were all beginner/rookies once, and I know when I was, I probably would have happily played my first Worlds or Atlanta in some backwater motel inn an hour from the nearest airport or major highway artery.  And I would (did) enter every stupid package event (loved it) AND would have played 30 hrs a day if possible, till my hands fell off (happened) and my eyes fell out(they did).  But tour promoters and event hosts know rookies and beginners who will become tour goers will readily go to Bumf*ck Anywhere anyway, so their opinions don't count as much as the regular veterans who've been going and voting with their dollars and trips for years.

I know it probably hurts the promotions & recruiting side a bit, but you gotta have your bread before you butter it.  which explains the predilection of tour players for Vegas and other party towns.  Tour Event promoters have the same concerns in locations as travel agents.  The place hasta had dat sumpin'sumtin'.

If they could play foos on a Mississippi River Casino Boat, I'd vote for that!  The way the balls are getting stickier and slower, that could happen soon!

I've been only playing less than a year and a half Brian.  I'm allowed to enjoy my beginner status while I have it.  When the points are done, she'll move me up.  No biggie.  I had my first taste of not being able to play beginners in the SFFS at murphy's because of all my titles down here  :P    I'm just enjoying the bottom while I can.  8)

John

Btw.. I wasn't treated like dirt.  Mary hooked me up with Ryan and I got to play against Pro's and win a title and a 2nd place with him.  :)

John, you have the distinct advantage of having gone to your first major events and super regionals, by Mary Moore & IFP (don't forget to greet her happy bday 10 Oct).

I'm talking about the Tornado and Valley events before Mary showed a different way to run tournaments, and don't think she didn't have a ton of detractors from the pro and promaster ranks.  She spread the money out and didn't punish a player who won 50 bucks in an event for the next 5-10 years by bumping them up to harder and less playable categories.  There are still a ton of Tornado high end players who think it's ridiculous to pay what  she's been paying to Pro, Amateur and Rookie events.  Not to mention Beginners!  They believe that the bottom should righteously support and pay for the lion's share of the prize money to the top pros.  You and Jenn are one of the lucky ones ...

Let's have this conversation again after you go to your first Valley event.  No money for Rookies, very very high entrance fees (noone at Valley can spell s-p-o-n-s-o-r), and ridiculous scheduling.  If you've never played before (like a beginner, for example) you can only play in semipro or higher.  Compared to Mary's events, where she'd pay, say, $3000 to Open Dubs, $1500 to Experts, $1000 to Rookies,  Valley would pay $4500 to Open Dubs, $800 to Experts and trophies to Rookies.  Beginners and first-timers without USTSA points or certification by their local promoters would have to play in Experts or higher.  Sounds draconian, but that's what it's been for 10 years of Tornado and another 10 years of Valley stranglehold dominance.

Between the 100 or so elite who know they'll be in the money mostly, and the bottom 100 or so avid newbies who would play in an unshielded nuclear reactor inside a coal mine if they had to, there is an *ss-ton of players who've put their money and mouths and vacation time into supporting Mary and Charles and IFP.

** Dunno how many *ss-pounds there are in an *ss-ton.  But plenty...

In the short time I started touring this year, Beginner never got paid any money in our events.  We just got trophy's.

As far as Valley.  Last years 135K worlds paid $4000.00 to Rookie Doubles first place, and Rico made just over 17k in his four events.   Honestly, I don't care about the money, because I'm simply not good enough to care.  But I do like the trophies, or chance for a jacket, as they last longer than the cash.

The only place I care about the money is our local tournies because of Netfoos stats.  I'm big into stats in video games and sports so the system Mark and Grant created is really cool and I enjoy seeing my name at the top of the money leader board as that is my whole foosball career mainly at strikers.  It gives me something to play for while I'm trying to improve different parts of my game.  Which by the way, I'm glad you stopped coming to Strikers again, because you have been tearing it up and were on track to bump me down to 3rd place.  :P

That's quite competitive.  Extremely competitive.   You'd rather have fewer better players go to the locals you go to, just so you can stay on your rung of the ladder?  But is it really better for your game to have worse competition just so your artificial standings are higher? Hmmmmm ..  Kinda unlucky that Brian C lives around the corner now, although since Mark never shows anymore, and with Paul retiring (?)..   Don't you relish the battle anymore?  Even though I know you are injured.

Your spot is safe.... I had no idea that was how your thought process was...  I stopped going to Strikers because of the distance, lack of decent partners to ride with and bring, and lack of competition.  On the other hand, any Friday at Murph's has Mark, Tony, SweetDaddy, GB & JT, Craig E., even Brian C and Paul.   Which has really helped GB/JT's, Craig E's, Paul's, Quincy's, and yes, even Casey's games.  Over 10 years at Palm Beach Billiards and Jonathan's and Franks before that, I was third in money winnings, behind only proMaster Mike Cody and pro Gary Gold.  I must say I never thought of it that way, only finding out after I handed the recs to Cheryl a while back for her JumpShots locals.  Probably because of all the DYP and other partners I alienated and won with.  ;D   But our thing was the competition, not THE LADDER.  I wonder if you ever read (or perhaps forgotten) Lord of the Flies?

But what about when you move to Texas?  You'll have to relinquish your standing here (to Craig E?, Geno maybe? oh no! :)), and battle it out in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, or Austin!  That could be tough...  But you can be sure they'll up your game, buddy..  And I expect you to visit for SFFS or two and kick our collective *sses.  :D
