Table Identification Please!
« on: July 30, 2009, 10:50:48 AM »
Hello!  I am selling my condo and the buyer actually asked to purchase my Foosball table as well.  Now, I originally received it free from a friend years ago... so I would actually be making money in the end.  I've grown attached, as it has a bit more character than some brand new tables... so I'm a ltitle conflicted about letting it go.

It isn't by any means a new table, and appears to be somewhat old, and I can't seem to find any manufacturer/brand name anywhere on it.

Is it just generic junk or can anyone here ID it to a manufacturer and time/era?  ???

looks like a mid 70's to early 80's Tournament Soccer clone...very inexpensive home model

do you own this, buying, or selling?

Yes I own this table.  As mentioned above, I am selling my condo... and oddly enough the buyer is interested in purchasing the table as well!  I just wanted to identify it, as I really have no background info on it.

Hey Tuna,

I agree that it looks like one of the many clones that came out when TS had their run and afterwards for a while. A couple of things that I do find interesting is that almost all of the clones I've seen over the years came with the lighter, deutcher meister style rods and the ones in the picture look to be solid. Also the legs on the clones usually attach to the inside of the cabinet, but the photos are identical to the very early greentop TS home model I have, fastening on the outside of the cabinet instead. Although doubtful, there is an outside chance it is an early pre-logo green top that was re-laminated with the later dark style butcher finish associated with brownies.

Fun remembering the glory days of TS!

Tyler, yea, I agree on all points

brizzard...if you are trying to get an idea of how much its worth...$50 top end...no value in old tables yet from a collectors stand point and there is nothing remarkable about this table and it is likely 30 years old and even if it was only a couple of years old it would still only be worth a couple of bucks

probably not what you want to hear but its the truth

Nope, that's exactly what I want to hear!  If I sell this table, I'll be in the market for a fairly expensive one to replace it.  That doesn't make economical sense to me if I'm happy with this retro one (even if it is a "clone" as I suspected).  But if I decide to let the new home-owner take it, at least I know I'm not giving up a historical Foos collectible.

Thanks for the info guys!

Brizzard,

Did the guy offer you a specific amount for the table? Having received it for free you can't lose no matter what, but I am still curious as to how much HE thinks it is worth.

No they didn't mention any specific $ amount at all.  But that is what drives a market for anything material of course... whatever the buyer is willing to pay can determine market value.

My place sold for $249,900.  So even though the table isn't worth $100 ... I could always ask them to round that number up by $100 for me.  :D

when you are ready to buy a real table, come back and I will help you starting with the stickie on buying a table at the top of this forum...buy new about $1250 and then used down from there as low as $400 sometimes...anyway, you will see

good luck, if they offered 249,900 I think you would be smart to take it and not counter for a foosball table worth less than the front door...throw it in as a feel good thing

Yeah, I'm thinking the opportunity to NOT have to move this thing is one I should capitalize on.  The buyer actually got involved in a bidding war over my condo, and I ended up getting my asking price (although about $10,000 more than they originally intended I think).

So yeah, I agree....  a "feel good" $10k foosball table for lucky contestant #1 might go over well.  I'll be back to this forum when searching for a replacement in the coming months then!

Just an update... I found a sticker on the bottom of the unit claiming to be manufactured in Taiwan.  I'm assuming this has travelled with the table over the last 20-30 years and wasn't affixed from something else during its travels.  Were TS tables manufactured in the USA?  This may confirm it being a 'clone'.

that is where TS tables were made but so were others...if it was TS, they would proudly have displayed the name on the playfield...you are not giving anything with real value away

every so often, a genuine TS Green, Blue, or Brown top becomes available - a real good home model and even less often a coin op...in the US, there are few if any tables that have the history and now older player bases who would see buying these as an "antique"...even then, they wont fetch more than $300-$400 and the table you have is not even in close to these

let it go and make someone happy then when you are ready, we can help you find something - we help you with no charge, we just like to see foosball spread and I like helping people...sssooooo, talk to you again if you ever come back...it not, good luck in the days ahead!

I second Tuna's comments. It is nice when people sign up here to pose specific questions and give us 'regulars' a chance to give our 2 cents. Good luck and I do hope to read more from you down the road!

Take care.................................Tyler
