need advice quick Bonzini table
« on: March 12, 2010, 11:22:29 AM »
I have been wanting a Bonzini for a while but have not got one because I always considered them out of my price range.

I have a chance to get a Bonzini B-90 in excellent condition for $750.00....how good of a deal is this?

I dont know much about Bonzini or where this model fits in the line up.

Any info or advice would be appreciated...Tyler?

WOW,  a Bonzini B90 in EXCELLENT condition for 750...hmmm...where might this table be (don't tell me or I will go buy it myself!

That is a great price, if it really is in excellent condition.  I know of a couple people that would buy it right now for 750.

that is a GREAT price.

The B90 is the top of the line table without a coin-mech.  That is the table that most Bonzini tournaments are played on.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask...I'll answer as best I can.

John,

Pat is correct, $750 is a terrific price and about 1/3 the current retail. The B-90 is the standard home model and the one used at Bonzini USA events along with ITSF competition and Bonzini Worlds in France. I would dive on one at that price!

Tyler

Edit - It is important to note that the Bonzini line of tables is very different than with many other tables, including Tornado. For example, Tornado has an opening pricepoint table that is very different in playability than the highest priced coin op or non-coin split cabinet. As you go up in price from the bottom you get an improved playfield, better men, better bearings, etc. until you get to the top of the line which has the best Tornado has to offer. On any Bonzini table, the playfield, men, rods, bearings, springs - everything is the same. So Pat's comment that the B-90 is the top of the line home table would be more accurate to say the most common home table. Bonzini compliments the B-90 with several custom tables - one that has drawers for use in a kids room, one that allows use while in a wheel chair, and several other examples of custom cabinets for specialty needs. They all have the same playablity components and I would guess most are actually higher priced as you get away from the 'basic' B-90. Please check out the selection at www.BonziniUSA.com and know whichever model you choose, the in use feel is the same on every Bonzini table.

Thanks everyone....I actually left 5 minutes after posting this to go buy the table on Friday. I just knew it would not last a second.  I got the table and it is in fantastic condition.  We had never played Bonzini before and did not know exactly what to expect.  I can barely type right now considering we played for about 10 hours over the weekend.  The style of play is extremely fun and a cork ball is soooo grippy ... totally different from Tornado obviously.

We would love to come to Charleston soon and hook up with some of you Bonzini players...I suspect due to way the table plays there are some very different styles and shots to learn.

Thanks again.

John,

Glad to hear you are having fun with it! It's amazing how a ball that is 95% out of reach can still be grabbed and controlled because of that grippiness. Also, notice the side of the foot of the men - there are actually 2 facets, the front part facing slightly forward and the back part slightly facing the back. If you shoot a pull, you will need to pay attention to the contact part at takeoff or you may stub the shot. The options that you have shooting a front pin are numerous, and I will be anxious to hear how your Bonzini game is progressing in a month or 2!

Congratulations on your purchase and becoming a Bonzini player, and I hope you can make it to a Bonzini USA event sometime soon.

Actually when we were first playing on the table we were so suprised by that...balls that were pinned and brought back into possession with only a needles width grabbing it.

Also noticed the facets from the get go. We of course tried to warm up to the Bonzini style with a little tic tac style passing and were like "whats up with that" then we noticed that little ridge and then I started hitting some great angle shots using those facets in different ways. It is still relatively rudimentary stuff though....for now!

One general question that we were wondering.  When playing singles do top Bonzini players usually pass from the goalie to the 5 man and then to 3 man and score or does anyone score from the goalie with a pull or whatever.  We kept having our goalie shots interupted by our own men because you cant lay them up like on a tornado.

Also we plan on making it to a Bonzini event soon...we are curious of just how high the bar is set and also because it can be kinda hard to progress when you know the shots that are coming and are prepared for only them..

THanks

Glad you like the table. You can get the five bar to stay up, pointing straight up. Shoot hard and they will come down but usually after the ball goes by. Players pass and shoot from goalie. You can do rollovers, pulls, kicks, pins... whatever you can think of it can be done on Bonzini. Also you can get the sides of the men "shaved" to allow for better tic tac. See Alan Cribbs of  www.bonziniusa.com for this and all parts you need.

There is going to be a DYP at my house in Columbia SC March 27th. We had nine players over this past Saturday and we had a blast. (video=  www.justin.tv/rterry )  You are welcome to come!

John,

Where are you located?

The table you have has a serial number pressed into the wood. It is located at the end ofthe table in the lower left hand side.
If you send me that number I can trace the tables history. Also, for the Bonzini U.S.A. players, I have been doing free upgrades to the men to bring them up to ITSF standards. It's relatively cheap to ship and turn around is about 4 days.

We have a unique culture of players that have alot of fun with the game and are great ambassadors. Our next big tournament event is the 2010 "Jimmy V" NC Foosball Open April 16-18. Check out all our tournament events at www.bonziniusa.com.

Give me a call if I casn help.

AC

Hey Guys.

Alan, I live in Savannah I will send you the serial number I remember it is 7XXX something. I would love to know the table history. The Bonzini tradition and history is a good portion of the lure of this style. I plan to bring the table to ITSF standard and will be in contact with you about that.

Thanks for the invite Rebecca...we have plans on the 27th but may do some shifting to come up there.

Do you guys know any players from Savannah...I have a friend on Hilton Head that plays Bonzini...but also looking for some players in Savannah.

This goes out to anyone that knows a Tornado or Bonzini players in Savannah....from what I can tell Jessica and I are the only foosers in this town of of 150,000....I find that hard to believe but I suspect that no one plays in bars because there is not enough of a player base or just because the local tables a maintained so poorly....and I mean not even playable.

Thanks

John,

Barry Descaro and Alex Jasper are the only 2 players I know of in Hilton Head.
We are trying to set-up a Hilton Head location with Barry's help.
If you see an opportunity in Savannah to help grow some Bonzini life, we are here to help.
Usually a single promo night or two will help get the ball rolling.

I'm trying get to Hilton Head April 23 and 24 to scope it out.
