grand forks tourney
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:20:36 PM »
i'm going to start planning another tourney in grand forks at rhombus guys.  $30/team.  byp.  standard tornado tournament rules(there might be a few modifications which i would go over prior to gameplay). payouts for the top five teams.   1st 130.  2nd 100.  3rd  70.  4th 40. 5th and 6th $15 each. still using the tornado t3000, which i keep in good condition.  if it looks like i'm getting a bunch of teams, i'll look into getting another table.  i'm looking at a saturday afternoon starting around 2pm.  late july/early august would be best.  does anyone have any dates that are especially good or especially bad?  i'll settle on a date by next friday.  i appreciate input.

I'd prefer August, but talk to Kane and maybe he could bring up his table, if so whenever it works for him would be cool.  If anyone doesn't know, the address is 312 Kittson Avenue, right downtown, table on the second floor.

Also once you know the date make an event for Rhombus' Facebook page, that's how Tomas, the French guy up here found out about the Turf's tournaments, but unfortunately he didn't know that we played until the day before he flew out.

Thanks for putting on another tourney.

ps- you Fargonaughts aint gonna win this time....

August might be good.  We are trying to pressure the Sports Bar into running a tournament possibly July 18th.  The hard part about summer tournaments is that everyone has something going on during weekends.  I figure if we set up this Sports tourney, we let everyone know and see who shows up.  This one isn't official yet, we're still waiting for Sports to green light it.

A tourney would be good though.  I bookmarked this thread so I'll check back to see if you guys get a date sorted out.

Aye cool Joe, that'd be fun but I'll probably miss that tourney.   You doing anything this Friday?  I'm gonna be passing through and will be up for some games.

I would vote for July 24th or July 31st. My wife is due on 8/10 so anything close to that and I won't be able to make it.

Thanks for setting this up.

P.S. I definitely think we'll need 2 tables.

Think the 24th would be better than the 31st.  The end of august 21st, 28th are no good for me.

If you can't locate a vendor there in GF then I could make arrangements to bring my table,  Where would you put the tables?  There second level would be pretty much reserved for foos if you put them both up there...  I will be busy the last weekend in July (31st) Other then that I should be open.

Thanks for putting one on=)

after taking various schedules into account, i decided to go with july 24th.  i'll contact the local vendors about a table for the day.   the table(s) will be in the front section, so that there will be more room to watch.  if there are any questions, feel free to ask.

That's cool, I had sorta forgotten about a wedding on the 7th.  Also could we do a $5 or so dyp afterwards?

Assuming the BYP ends at a reasonable hour, I would be up for a DYP as well.

Also, in regards to the payouts for the BYP, the total amount you listed comes to $370. Is it fair to assume if we have more than 24 players, the payouts will go up accordingly (13 teams * $30 = $390 total)? I thinking paying out to 6th place is a great idea and will definitely help attract more people.

I'll find out who all from my work will be coming and post an update once we get closer to the tournament date. I may have some players that need partners so if anyone is looking for a partner please post on this thread.

it's really tough to say how many teams we will get.  it could be fewer than 12(in which case i will be covering the costs); it could be more than 12.  i'm not sure what to expect, but even if there were twelve i would be paying $10 out of pocket.  so, unless it looks like there will be many more teams than 12, payouts will remain as posted. also we'll have a trophy again.  this time, however, you'll be able to take it home with you. we can do dyp tourneys after the initial tourney.  we have the space, so we can play all day and night if we want.

if you know your team, please post names and contact numbers.  this makes it much easier for me to organize brackets and get things started on time. also, paying your entry fee ahead of time makes it easier on me.  i can take cc over the phone which is easy for me.   feel free to e-mail me at rhombus_guys@hotmail.com if you would like more privacy.

For the tournament in January, we played 1-game matches to 8 goals (win by 2). Are you thinking of sticking with that format for this event?

If we can get 2 tables, I would vote for playing the more standard format of best of 3-game matches to 5 goals (no win by 2).
