help! 3 tornado tables which is best value?
« on: December 04, 2010, 07:40:29 PM »
Hi, this site is awesome!    Thank you so much for all the information I've already learned by reading this site.

this is my question:  I want to buy this as a christmas present so I can't wait for a coin up to become available.  I have 3 choices via craigslist.

a grey marble laminate of unknown mode maker tornado $200

a tornado twister II for $350

and a cyclone for $600

which one ( if any) should I go for?  Thanks for your help/advice!  cheers!

Unless the grey marble laminate is a coin-op Tornado, then I probably wouldn't get any of them.

Where are you located?

I'm in Massachusetts.  Thanks for your opinion.  The grey marble laminate is not coin operated.

Not sure how far Sanbornville, New Hampshire is but check out this table:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Tornado-Tournament-Foosball-Table-COIN-MECHANISM-/220701034210?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3362ce86e2

He definitely will never get that $899 asking price, which is why it didn't sell.  I would work him down quite a bit from what he is asking.  Give him a fair cash price, and remind him that he will not have to eat any eBay or Paypal fees.  Also the seller says they can meet you in northern Mass?  But if it's worth your time maybe you can get a lower price if you tell him you would go to their place and pick it up...  All things to negotiate with.  Good luck!

This one is a lot further out from you:

Hi  Thank you again for all your help!  What do you think is a fair price?  Prior to reading this site my budget was $300.00.  I now know to get a decent table, that is too low.  what are your thoughts?

the ny one is 6 hrs away- not feasible- with shipping it would probably cost $1000.00- that is too rich for me.

Actually $899...use that link and then go to "See full description" right below that.

$999, $899, $799...still over priced.  Ask about the condition of the table...any bent rods, warped table issues, functioning coin-op internals, and any cosmetic defects (looks like there are holes on the side of the cabinet where some drink holders were attached) that could affect the price.  Also inquire about balls, tools (hex wrench, punch pin and lube) and if there are any spare parts (men, bearings, rubber bumpers, etc...).  Lastly mention if the table was upgraded with the newest mold of men, clear side strips and thinner bearings.

I've done this a few times now with a lot of success...but you need to word the offer careful as to not insult someone who is looking to get $900 for a table that in today's market is not worth it...be respectful of the fact they may have paid $1,600+ for it 5 or so years ago.  Honestly I would probably start the "bidding" process at $500 and probably would not move up any higher than $600-$695 depending on condition and accessories.  If it was in mint shape, with all the upgraded parts, and lots of extras (and was in my driving range) I probably would consider $800-$850.

One thing I've learned is, don't force the deal to happen and way over pay...if the guy doesn't budge, then just wait until another table comes along.  It will eventually happen.  These tables are big/heavy/cumbersome and every once in a while you see a guy trying to get rid of these tables for a song, and you just have to be the first to step up to the plate.  I don't know how many times I've seen Craigslist ads that read, "need to move out this weekend and can't take Tornado to my new 5th floor loft condo (no elevator)" or "wife/girlfriend/significant other wants dining room table back, must sell Tornado"...you just need a few extra hands to help move and the right vehicle to transport it in.

Man I wish you lived closer, I've got a "spare" blonde Tornado coin-op sitting in my basement that I need to clear room for...can anyone say BONZINI!  The funny part is, you are looking for a Tornado out east...which there seems to be a surplus here in the midwest...and it seems like all the great deals for Bonzini's are all found on the east coast.  Isn't that the way life always is???  Never in your own backyard for some reason.

Thank you again!!!  I'll follow your advice and let you know what happens. BTW- I am not committed to Tornado...those were the only ones on Craigslist.  And from reading this awesome site, I learned that a Tornado coin-op was the best way to go...if I could find one.  I'll keep my eyes out for a bonzini.  I started this journey, thinking I would just buy one at the sports authority-  Be nice- I am a newbie!!

Yeah let us know how the negotiations turn out.  Bonzini's play, way, way different than a Tornado...but far less popular here in the States.  Check them out:

Man I wish I could pick up this Bonzini in Annandale, VA (it's a steal):

I am going to sound like a homer but here it goes.
Fireball table soccer is a great choice for the buck.

www.fireballtablesoccer.com

If you want a great deal on a very heavy duty TOUR table check it out.

Check out page 6 of this forum, under what table should I buy for information written without my involvement.
Jim Waterman at Foosball.com has some used tour models for sale under $600 that kick ass! one man goalie or the popular 3 man goalie.

info@foosball dot com Debbie or Jim
They are located in Maryland and the freight would be near the $150 mark for a 250 lbs table.

If you have any question ask the homer...Brad (at) Fireballtablesoccer dot com
