Topic: What exactly is this table? What year? Is it worth $1100?

Table is in perfect condition and I am 30 miles away for pickup. Any advise would be appreciated.

I would offer $850. You can get a current model year tournament used table for $1175. The current model year tables are way better than those being made 2 years ago so I would be hesitant to pay such a premium.

Make sure the surface isn't warped at all.  Here's a summary and advice on it by bbtuna, it's identifiable as the "Fridge" model because it has the new metal look to it and the score counters are still the old 5 piece wooden ones.

Not Tornado name but ... this was the first metal wrap table and it had the small USTSA / VIFA / ITSF logo's on the end.  Not widely known but Tornado called this table the T-3000 Tour Edition but for the everyday player it was still a T2000 and the T3000 Full Meal Deal didn't come out until 2009

Okay, this was a good table outside of not having Merkel rods but instead the imported heat-treated rods...no surface, man, or handle changes during the run BUT

Toward the end of the run and around the same time two important negative things happened...one is that they made a change in the production of the playing surface and there are a bunch of these tables with warped surfaces...if you get one of these warped surface tables you will own the worst Tornado ever made…I have had the misfortune of having to play on one of these and it ranks with the worst foosball experiences I can remember...EVER!  there is no excuse and no fixing it...

The warped playing surface tables showed up at Tornado tournaments to the dismay of many...there is a "fix" suggested out there were you put blocks under the top to push up the surface (available on other board)...I won't get into details but a warped playing surface on any table in foosball is unacceptable PERIOD...the playing surface needs to be replaced by the manufacture...this is bad enough it should have a recall.  Note:  Tornado acknowledges that the warping is real and their problem.  Tornado send a new surface but you have to replace the surface yourself and this is not easy for most people.  Best not to get one to begin with.

The other tragedy is the change on the latest models, start of 2008 I believe, of the score markers to the new plastic CRAP CRAP CRAP...it may be hard to tell but I don't like these - I understand the logic and why they did it, but it is a terrible design."

I find it hard to believe someone paid two grand for a table even brand new. The latest model did go up in price but I think it is about 13 or 1400. The price he wants is what they cost brand new. 2000.... yeah right. Full retail is a lot lower than that let alone a two year old one.

Depending on market conditions I would wait it out and see if you can get it below $900 (I think the suggestion above for $850 is actually quite fair).  I seriously doubt they would ever get $1,100, but I've seen people get pretty stubborn about things and "would rather keep it and use it for firewood than to give it away for less than $900".  My angle would be to offer them $850 cash upon pickup, to which they'll probably say NO...and then tell them to please keep your name and number if they should decide to change their minds.

It doesn't look like they have the updated handles and clear side strips, which probably means they don't have the updated men and thinner bearings.  If all those parts were updated it would probably cost about $250 shipped, which is a definite negotiation point and logic behind the $850 amount ($1,100 - $250 = $850).

I believe the latest and greatest tourney used coin-ops from Charles Mac is in the $1,450-$1,500 shipped range (depending on where you are located)...Shipping probably averages in the $300 range, so the price of $1,175 is probably pretty accurate as far as a cash pickup price for a current tourney used coin-op.

I understand that, my point is he is trying to make you feel like you are getting a hell of a deal by stating he paid two grand in the first place of which I doubt. If he did.... simply he got hosed, no sense in you getting hosed as well.

As stated by others, if you are willing to spend that type of money, get on the horn ASAP with Charles McIntosh. There was just a tourney in St. Louis and if you talk with him directly, pretty sure he can ship you a BRAND NEW table that has been used for one weekend instead of for two years and is fully updated. Sure he would rather ship you one than take it back to his storage.

Don't care how nice that table is, it's not worth over nine. You can get a brand new one for what you are talking about.

Well I pulled out of that deal, and he did end up selling it for $100. I spoke to McIntosh and he has the used current version for $1400 shipped. Is this a good deal for $325? I realize a major step down but for an amateur?

Man if they sold it for $1100 good for them...  I'd feel bad for the sucker who paid that much for it, and happy that that sucker wasn't me.

That Jacksonville listing isn't working for me...but if there was a coin-op selling for $325 then that is a heck of a deal and the link probably doesn't work because they took the posting down because it sold.

The Whirlwind is the lowest grade Tornado out there.  Try to at least get a Cyclone, it has the good bearings and thicker walls.  But if you want this table, offer him $150 for it.  He'll say that it's worth way more, but playing on them there's no comparison.
