Curve/ masse shot?
« on: April 19, 2006, 09:29:50 PM »
hello, for one i am new here and fairly new to the game (4 months). I have been practicing the curve/masse shot (lot's of spin on the ball) and consider myself to be somewhat decent and accurate with it. So, my question is - Is this shot Legal ? is this shot considered "shady"? and I have searched the website for information about it and didn't seem to find much. Are people using this shot or what?  thanks

Do you mean the "pinch" shot where you pin the ball hard against the surface and pinch it out medium-hard and it turns at like a 45 degree angle?

Or do you mean hammering a pull kick with a ton of recoil so it curves slightly as it goes downfield?

The former is fun and you can get a lot of motion on the ball, but it's too slow to score on even a reasonable amateur tour goalie.

The latter is standard practice, normally it doesn't curve much (just squares off/reverses the shot) but with new balls/surfaces it can get a bit of curve on it.

Masse'

Bruce Nardoci did a good masse for ESPN last July at the VA Open.

Usually considerd a trick shot and very rarely used in competition.

No one to my knowledge has an offensed based around a masse' shot to date, you may become the first.

It is a legal shot.

thanks for the responses guys, sumner, i use the squeese sometimes but mostly the masse shot, recently i have descovered how score with the center man on the three bar with a masse shot that does an "S". it seems to work on the opponents becuase they're not used to it.. i'll keep practicing. thanks all

how do you do it?  It seems like an interesting shot to fool around.

I have some really light cork balls at home that we like to fool around with when we get drunk, and we can do some pretty wicked masse shots with those by back pinning it way back, but ive never been able to do it with the normal pink ones...    ...my 2 cents.

i'm not an expert on foosball terms so bare with me. to do the S curve with the center man on the three bar, trap the ball in the furthest back position (facing your goal) there are 2 ways you can go, use the dots to decide where to shoot. i usuall will acually let the ball go at the second dot fom the center.. you can either 1. shoot a sraigh masse curve around the defense and in or 2. try to bust the S which will weave out, then in then slightly out again just before it reaches the goalie.. for the S, you trap the ball direclty on top of the second dot pusch side of the center dot, have the ball on the push side of you man (about half way off the man and half way under) then move your bar to the push side just until the the ball is in the exact opposite position of where it was ( so it is 50 on 50 off the pulls side). then go directly back to where you started (50 on 50 off the push side 2nd dot) and release.. this should all be done in one fluid motion with TONS of pressure on the ball.. the ball has tons of spin and the first direction it goes is to the push side, that is because of the pressure from it being popped out, then the actuall spin comes in and brings it toward the goal and to the pull side, the final spin is very slight but i moves the ball about and inch to two inches to the push side, this is because of the way you "wind up" and the ball actually comes out on a wierd angle so it has alot of spin one way and it's a little off axis spining another, so when the 2 spin dies down it catches that last little spin from an off angle..
it also works very well as a fake because when you move it back to get force for the masse, you can also release with medium pruessure on your pulls side for a regualr masse in. Again i don't know if it's me or what but most of the people i play with cannot come with in a quater of the pressure and spin i can do without trying really hard..
