Rico is a freak. The next tier of pro/pro-master front-pin shooters after him don't score even as much as a good semipro pull or snake does.
They'll tear you up on Bonzini, though.

There are more than enough good front pin shooters in europe.
They are just not as good with it on a Tornado. ;)

They can even score on Jamal with it. ;)

I don't always have a person to play against. I find I get consistent shooting when I am practicing by myself but once I start playing someone, it seems I lose my consistency, How can I battle that problem.

It would be nice if there was some sort of motor that you could attach to your goalie rods that moves the bars randomly, stops, pauses, etc. That way you wouldn't have to practice with still defenders all the time.

Wells,

You might have to find a playing location close, the only way to develop your shot is your play against good goalies. I can knock the bottom out of the goal when practicing by myself, but the only way to get competitive is to play in some tournaments and learn. You will take alot of hard shots but believe me it helps your game and makes you better at ball control.

Hope this helps

I appreciate the advice. Now all I have to do is find people to play against. I am trying to put on a small tournament in Grand Forks N.D but I just have not been able to generate enough interest. I have taken out radio ads and put up fliers (I'm in advertising) but there is not many people around who like to play.

Are there any amatuer tournaments around the midwest?

You can't spell Missouri?? Well thats where i live and we have an event coming up on July 21st at Sidepockets Billards in Independence. The event is sponsored by Foosin' Fever and the last time we went in February it was a huge turn out. Lots of good players it's called the Kansas City Classic. There is also another in Sioux Falls the date in June sometime also put on by Foosin' Fever.

Good Luck

it depends on who you are there are some people that are SICK at a front pin...anything that you want to get good at you can just master it!!....

On Tornado I've seen exactly one that's SICK, and that's Rico's.  All the other ones I've seen range from poor to pretty decent, but not as good as a semipro-level pull or snake.  Usually it's the push side that either sprays, is slow, or requires them to "load up" and telegraph it, and often the straight has tells too.  Sometimes they try to mask this by shooting the "front-pin pull" series which sets up all the way on the far side, but it's not as effective as a standard slide pull on Tornado.

On Bonzini, Eurosoccer, Jupiter, etc it's a whole other story, there are many great pin shooters and on Jupiter/Bonzini there aren't many great pull shooters.

i do know a guy (here in Athens, Ohio) that shoots the best front pin pulls i have ever seen...even Rico would find it interesting, so i know that if you work on anything long enough you can master it...sorry about the spelling of Missouri not the best of a speller wont lie...
