Walking or rockin snake
« on: May 10, 2006, 02:17:18 PM »
I find that rocking the snake is easier for me to do, but also easier for the defense to tell which hole I'm going to. I know what it means when people say "walking" snake. Do you have your wrist down on the handle or is that more like Fredirico's euro pin?

P.S. how do you do that shot without your wrist down on the handle? Is it brought all they way around or does it come off to the side and then through the ball?

thanks

Rocking the snake is not a bad thing try to change the speed of the rock that will srew up there timing.  It will also let you know if they are trying to bait a hole.

i think it is the best way to learn a snake shot...and if you get good at it your rock can help confuse the goalie

I am curious as to any tips on how to rock the snake with your wrist on the handle too.  I can rock quite well with my normal hand position on the rod.  But once I switch to the snake formation (wrist on rod instead of hand on rod), I find it hard to rock the snake.  The ball keeps slipping out after.

Your rock-stroke may be too wide.  Try shortening your stroke.  Another possiblility is that you may not be keeping enough pressure on the ball.

What do you mean the rock is too wide?  You mean I am trying to move the ball too much at once?

What do you mean by applying more pressure?  You mean I should "repin" the ball harder?

I think what he is trying to say is you can rock either direction only the width of the foot in that direction before there is nothing to keep it pinned. Unless you walk it (tap) in one direction or the other. As far as down pressure on the rod, this is a patience waiting game, the more you set and trap the ball and get the feel of it, the more it will feel natural to find your dominant shooting side. Stay with it, this is not a shot you can learn overnite. All of the good snake shooters i play against shoot far corners high on both sides or straight down my cakehole when i change up on my shuffle. Good Luck and (don't give up on the shot) it puts fear in almost all goalies even if they won't admit it..... ;D

I can rock the ball fine, I just have trouble moving the ball, lift my man, then repinning it again.

I'm one of the lucky few who can do both sides equally.  I'm not saying I do both sides well, but I don't have a strong or weak side.  I either do well in both or suck in both, which could be both good or bad.  I prefer having a strong side though, at least I can always get around 1-2 goals in using only that side before the opponent figures it out.

How does Fredericko do that Euro Pin shot so effectively. I've been told not to even try and waste my time learning that shot.

Viper, a good practice  excercise i use is to pin the ball on your 3 rod and set up in roller position, stay in that position and pass the ball between each of the outer men and the center without taking your wrist off the handle. You will be amazed how much ball control can come from this. It will give you the soft feel you need to retrap the ball (without letting it slip away)

Rico is a freak.  The next tier of pro/pro-master front-pin shooters after him don't score even as much as a good semipro pull or snake does.

They'll tear you up on Bonzini, though.

thanks i'll give that a shot

what's the euro pin shot?  tried googling it but didn't get any results defining what it is..all i found out was that it's also a front pin i think

It is a front pin but he doesn't spin the man around. He quickly brings the man around either side in the front pin position and hits the ball straight or with an angle. I've tried doing in numerous times and it seems 3 times harder than the snake.

it depends on who you are there are some people that are SICK at a front pin...anything that you want to get good at you can just master it!!....
