Brown marble help?
« on: September 05, 2014, 12:03:20 PM »
I am new to the forum and have been out of the game for a while.
I have a line on a brown marble table that is 12-15 years old.
One bent bar, very very slight cupping.
That's all I've found wrong.
Is $500 to much?
I'm trying to add pics but not sure how.
Any advice would be great.

I don't remember when they quit making the brown marbles, but it's probably older than that.  Don't despair though.  The brown marble was the best built.  They play slightly faster than the newest tournament models but certainly would be better than a department store brand.  Just the fact that they still play well after all this time is testament to how well they were made.

The market you're in would determine what a fair price would be.  They'll bring more in the far Northwest than they would in the Northeast for example.

More important than the bar would be the playfield.  Make sure the playing surface and sidewalls are not swelled or warped.

It's a coin operated brown marble.
I live in NC and they seem to be popular here.
The play field and sides are good,  so are the edges on the goals.
Noticed it was missing the prop stick but all in all good shape.
Anything else to look for or consider?
If not $500 may be the #.  He will not take less.
Opinions?
Thx

Sound like a deal I would look into.. as indicated above, have a good look at the playfield posts / walls / bearing holes...  Any damage is a deal breaker.  Also make sure to set the expectation you will check the playfield levelness and for warping.  Someone else's junk can be expensive to fix or flip.  Make a lower standing offer if you cannot check the playfield flatness fully.  $250 for a new playfield + trim + effort....
