On table lighting?
« on: February 25, 2005, 02:13:49 PM »
I would like to know if somebody has experimented with table lighting.  I would like to mount some type of dicrete lighting on either end of the table to light the table effectivly.  I had been looking at picture frame type lighting made for artwork and wondered if something similar might work well to light a table.  Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hanging one of those long fluorescent lights over the table is cheap and effective.

You need something that runs between all the rods in order to avoid having them cast bad shadows on the surface; I can't think of a way to do that from the ends of the table only.

My problem is my 20ft plus ceiling and the location does not lend itself well to a typical hanging light :-( .  Something perhaps with a arm that would either be floor standing or attach to the nearby wall may work, as well as building some type of table mounted support??.  I am just searching for any ideas.  I was thinking that perhaps a double ended light approach may somewhat cancel shadows but maybe not.

Tornado uses lights that attach to the scorers on the table.  They're made of metal tubing.  From the end, it's like an upside-down V on each scorer with a pole connecting the two points that supports a long fluorescent light.

I know they sell them but they're pricey.  You might be able to build something similar yourself.

As I said, they're stupidly expensive.

The official one I'm talking about looks like the black light at:
http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID4954160P3448797-Black-Light-Kit.aspx

but it's not a black light (and that blacklight price includes all new men and balls and stuff).

Your best bet is to call up (or email) one of the online sellers and ask.  Seeing as we're on this site, try them first:
http://store.yahoo.com/foosdirect-store/info.html (that's the foosball.com contact info)
If they can't help, try:

There were nice lights mounted to the tables at Worlds last year I believe. These also were used at the Houston City Championships 2 weeks ago. They were great in my opinion.

I am looking into buying one form my table.

I was hoping that foosball.com would stock some... Jim?

Those are the same ones from the blacklight kit that I linked to.  You're going to have to call/email since nobody seems to be advertising them online (but I know they can be bought).

we looked into a while back... but the price scared away a few early shoppers.... so we never did get them...

we'll have to revisit soon and see what options (without the black light men perhaps).....
hmmm... i wonder if they'll have discount used ones after "vegas" assuming that they will be there again!?!

later... JimW
