Jan 2009 World Championship prizes (info from ITSF)

As explained in our December newsletter ( http://www.table-soccer.org/newsletter/200812_newsletter.html ), 16 tables among those used at the World Cup will be awarded to ITSF member federations at the World Cup:

1) - 2 federations in poor countries (to help them set up ITSF Training Centres) through the ITSF Development Fund (6 tables; 3 tables each to 2 federations)

2) - 2 federations that have worked a lot to develop table soccer in their country (4 tables; 2 tables each to 2 federations)
The following criteria have been taken into account:
- administration - developing the internal structure of their organization and membership system
- communication - through their websites and forums
- networking - establishing contacts with sports authorities in their country
- sport - sending players to ITSF events, especially national teams to WCS events in 2008, as well as Men's and Women's teams to the World Cup

The tables that will be donated as aknowledgment of the federations' work can not be resold, they are to be used to set up ITSF Training Centres in their country.

3) - the Top 3 federations according to the medal count in the World Championships rankings (6 tables; 2 tables each to 3 federations)
This medal count will be done on exactly the same basis that served to calculate the medal count at last year's World Championships:
These rankings sort by the number of gold medals earned by a country. The number of silvers is taken into consideration next and then the number of bronze.

If, after the above, countries are still tied, equal ranking is given and they are listed alphabetically.

Regarding the donation of tables, if countries are still tied, the 2008 World Rankings of Nations will be used.

That brings to over 40 000 euros (over US $ 55 000) the amount spent on players and federations for the World Cup. Apart from the tables being donated and the travel packages allocated to individual players,

World Championships winners in each category will be awarded a total of 36 World Championship Series (WCS) packages so they can attend WCS events during the 2009 Tour. Each time, packages will be awarded to World Championships winners who are not members of the federation awarding the package, so that players are encouraged to attend other WCS events than the one taking place in their country.

More information on the types of donated tables and WCS packages will be given to players before the start of the competition.

FYI, in 2007 the grand total allocated to players (travel packages and prize money) was 25 000 euros; and nothing to federations.

This year, the main idea has really been to allocate the prize money more fairly and in a way that makes more sense, in order to make sure that "grass root" table soccer can grow at the same time as high-level competitive table soccer. We have to make sure that these 2 aspects of our sport are not be opposed, and can evolve side by side.

We intend to keep going in that direction in the future.

New in the 2009 Tour: the winner of the Senior Singles category in each WCS event will qualify automatically for the World Championships, and will be entitled to a travel package, as is already the case for the Top 3 Open Singles winners, the winner of the Women’s Singles and Junior Singles categories, of each WCS event.

Also, if tests conducted on tables for players with disabilities enable us to include a Disabled Singles category at the World Championships ending the 2009 Tour, then the winner of that category in each WCS event will also qualify automatically for the World Championships, and be entitled to a travel package.
